and a kit with hoses etc. to drain my .62 acre pond. Anybody else use this model? Someone on here said you can't go wrong with a Honda. Price seemed right at $349.00 at Tractor Supply.

I use a Honda. Is it a two inch or a three inch?

My Honda never needs service of any kind. I can't believe after several hundred hours of use that it's still chuggin'.

It's a 2 inch.
Is yours a GC 160 or a GX 160? Seems the GX is more expensive and possibly the GC is a more economical model built for Tractor Supply?

That explains your lower price. It should still be a great unit. What's the maximum gpm?

Believe it or not I haven't been able to find it anywhere in the owner's manual! Yet anyway. Couldn't find it at the store either!

Found it on the Internet just now at 160 gpms. Zero feet of head I'm sure.

I know I found it somewhere that said 160 gpms but can't find it now. But this site says 150 gpms. Either way it's a good amount of water! Mine doesn't have a roll bars so that would explain the lower price than the one below. I guess I will just have to mount it to something and add the roll bars later. (Is that what they are called?)

Honda's are good engines, pretty much guaranteed to start on the first pull, even if it has been setting a while. I have a couple.

Perkins makes excellent diesel engines. My New-Old 02 Bobcat 963G has 105hp, with only 1111.8 hrs, it's not even broke in. And. WOW, is that thing quiet!!!

New tires should be on in about two hours. Titan Tires, all four installed for 1100.00 and these are 14x17.5 14 ply, and they came out here to do it.

Everything about this project has a lot of the number 1 in it, whats up with that?

No they are not roll bars, just carry handles.

Phil,

Thanks for the info. Got oil and gas into it and got her started easily. Trouble is I don't have enough 2 inch out take hose. I thought I was going to be able to fit the 2 inch out take hose into some 3 inch drainage pipe to get the added length I need from the pump to the ditch but no dice. It fits inside but the pressure is too much, and the water flows back. Oh well! On to Tractor Supply for a few more feet and some connectors.

She's going on 3 hours and the second tank fill and she's running fine. Really moving the water! At five hours she gets an oil change.

I know... I need to get a life if draining my pond is exciting. \:D

I imagine it will take a while. Took two 3 inch pumps running ~12 hours a day for 3 days to drain my ~.5 acre pond.

I'm calculating 10 days for my .62 acre pond at 1,000,000 gallons! \:o

Thanks Tom. Definitely changing the oil at 25 hours! Need to check the air filter at the next refill. I spent too much on this equipment to not maintain it. Will need it every year on my trout pond starting next fall. Fortunately it's only 100,000 gallons!

Yep, that crib should be a feature post in the Human Habitat; dreaming out loud thread. Very cool.

So Cecil...is there any fear that moving that amount of water along is going to attract the white vans with the blue lights?

White vans with blue lights? You mean the red van that had no markings with the guys running steel rods into the dam side with the highway department not knowing who that was?

Well, I'm doing it and whatever transpires transpires. I considered asking questions, but decided not to open up a can of worms. My excavator did a partical drawdown a few years ago with no problem.

Here in Indiana we have very few restrictions that I am aware of. I do know at my location I am not required a permit to put in a pond.

Outgoing water is crystal clear and orginally well water. In fact it's better quality than the well water, as the iron as settled out. Water Clarity in the pond is 12 feet (max depth). (Gin clear!)

Yeah...that van. I remember somewhere in one of your past threads that the highway department or something was givin' you headaches about the pump feed overflow into the ditch.

Actually it wasn't me that was causing it and they realized that. Their foreman has been very polite and professional and easy to work with. The problem was we had water standing in the ditch due to a wet late fall, and then the culvert froze shut due to a sudden cold snap. Then we warmed up again and snow melt overflowed onto the highway during the day because the culvert was frozen solid. This then created a dangerous situation by freezing again at night. They thought I was still pumping water which I was not. I stop all pumping 1 November to the trout pond as it's not needed. So there is no subsequent overflow to the other two ponds in the series and lastly to the ditch.

Another problem, which also had nothing to do with me was a wash out downstream due to poor workmanship of that culvert. They simply asked if I would shut down my flow for a couple days while they fixed it, which I did.

But still the red van people was, and is, still a mystery to highway department and myself. For a state agency they sure had a crappy van and no markings. Maybe HWY department subcontractors?

Sure why not? Can you tell the pond is going down? Are they that current?

Hey maybe we should all dress up manikins and float them face down in our ponds and see who's get's noticed on the sat first? \:D

I just started wasting a bunch of time with the satellite coverage of the world that is free on the internet.

Not sure that pond level can be detected on a hourly basis, but the three dimensional images of a specific location seems to be worth a few more wasted hours.

I would not worry about red vans or white vans with blue lights, I wouldn't worry about anything at all.

If no one's gone to rescue that poor basketball player being held prisoner at Bruce's Dad's pond after 2-3 months, I don't think a drowning mannequin has a chance.
