I've been helping a friend with management of his pond. I've been trying to create a trophy bluegill fishery, but evidently there's some big largemouth as well. Caught this one about three hours ago.

Bruce says he like BG and HSB best - but he shaves for a pretty LMB!

That sucker could do a pretty good number on some trophy bluegill. If you're trying to use bass heavy as a tool, it ain't workin. Beautiful fish.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Yeah, Bruce - what's your bass-size strategy going to be for this pond? Are Biff McHuge-Large there and his pumped-up friends going to be coming out to favor the smaller, hungrier LMB that they've been kicking spawning bed sand in the faces of?

Often in ponds that are bass crowded there are a few LMB that somehow jump the size clog and get big and are in good condition. They eat a lot of smaller LMB and some big BG. What is the condition of the fishery population Bruce ? BTW nice fish - she ruled the pond until you took over.

Here's another angle of the fish just to prove that my arms aren't as long as people say. Just at 22 inches. My Wr table says this fish should be around 6 pounds in the excellent condition that it was in, but it also had a lump in it's belly suggesting a one pound LMB. Fusiform, so it wasn't a bluegill. Sorry I put the bass on the ground but it was just for a second. So I'm guessing between 6 and 6 3/4 pounds.

Dang that's a nice fish. I'll bet Bruce even put on cologne for that one.

My fish aren't as picky. They don't care what you look like as long as you've got what they want. I should know. This is what I usually look like when I'm fishing or early in the morning. I guess we all can't be as pretty as Bruce.

Cecil, I figure you grinned it to death and it floated to the top.

Cecil, I figure you grinned it to death and it floated to the top. Yep same with Bruce. You can tell by the expression on their faces that neither one of them like to fish, what a shame.

Greg, the LMB state record for NE is 10 lbs. 12 oz.
Bruce, just looking at the belly on that LMB makes me think that fish is pushing the 8 lb. mark. My best NE LMB, caught at our pond, was 21-3/4" (mouth closed) and bottomed out an old 8lb. spring scale. 7-1/2 lbs. would be a very reasonable guess on that LMB.

That's quite an angular gut on the LMB.
Bruce, are you sure you didn't stuff one of your shoes down his gut?
