I live in SW Louisiana and I finally got my half acre pond dug. All the dirt was used to build up the rest of my property. The majority of this dirt was clay.

What kind of grass should I plant on this clay? I wanted to plant Bermuda because the property will just be used as pasture. It is a little late in the year to be planting Bermuda but I need to get something on the dirt soon.

Wheat is probably the most dependable.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I have one pasture of pretty heavy clay that won't grow much grass but seems to do well with wheat. It also does pretty well with various weeds.

I used "brown top millet" it comes up FAST and grew on a lot of clay pretty well... You'll need something else too because this is a temporary cover to keep everything from washing back in. I mixed bermuda and bahia with the millet.

I planted 4 acres in bermuda this april and it did very well in my clay soil of course it did better where there was some topsoil. I think bermuda will grown just about anywhere here in louisiana. I even had it start growing in my rocks on the driveway from seed. Heres a before and after pic this is 5 months of growth.

You can pay more but you cant buy better.
