Is spatterdock (sp?) a good pond plant?

I see it used in wildlife ponds

I see beavers and muskrats like the rhizomes. Not sure if they are a problem in your pond/area. I wouldn't want to attract them.

I'd be interested in other opinions as I am looking for plant ideas for when my renovation is done.

Spatterdock is very invasive and hard to control once it becomes well established after 5 to 10 yrs. Rhizomes will get up to 4" in diameter and very long easily 6'-10' long. A much better and similar plant is hybrid water lilies. Wild water lilies will also spread pretty fast from seeds and brittle root buds. Domesticated lilies generally do not have this bad trait.
