Pond Boss Forums POND CONSTRUCTION Selecting a site watershed area for a 4 acre pond

I would like to build a 4 acre pond by daming a ravine that drains about 70 acres of watershed. The area around the pond is fairly steep and wooded, with crop land further up slope. Maximum pond depth would be about 35-40 feet (live up north and trying to prevent winter kill). Is this about the right size watershed for this pond? too big? too small?

What other factors do I need to consider?

I think the general rule is 10 acres watershed for each surface acre water; but it obviously varies by location due to rainfall, soil types, etc.

The NCRS has a really good publication which has information about typical rainfalls and all that. I searched and the following links might help, but I didn't find the one I wanted. I'm sure its link is posted somewhere in a previous thread though.
