Hi Bob,
I caught the show tonight on RFD. I was the last caller. I was Bobbi and I asked the question about my fish not multiplying. You guys hit the nail on the head when you said the pond was too deep and the sides were too steep! I just got registered on here and I'm so glad to find this forum. I love my pond, it's small, but it has everything I need. Fish, clean water, a dock, and warm summer nights with the sound of frogs and crickets chirping! Thanks for all the help already! Bobbi

Welcome, floatinflowers...and many thanks to both you and all the other callers that helped make that show what I believe we all perceive to be a huge success. There is a great support group of experienced "fine-tuners" on this forum. No quarter necessary at this juke box...just ask a question.
Glad you stopped by...hope ya stay.

Arrrg! I knew I forgot something last night. Even had it written on my calendar. Got to wrapped up in watching the Lady Vols in the softball World Series.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I am going to love it here. I have so much to learn. My pond was built in 2002. I put some pics on the pond boss website under photos. I also found some pics of the pond when it was a big crater! The first night after it was dug, it rained, and the next morning it had 3 feet of water on the bottom of this 17 foot deep hole in the ground. I was so happy, I cried! It was dug in Sept. of '02 and by June of '03 it was over-flowing and full. My 6 acre hayfield is the watershed for the pond, and also snow melt in the spring. Mine does have a leak in it, but I have to go to work now \:\( . I will explain on another post.
I'm really glad to be here and hope to make alot of new friends here! Happy ponding everyone!!

Nice to hear from another Minnesotan. Welcome FIF. Hope you don't mind that I just came up with that acronym cause I can't type well enough to keep using full names. Seems like someone will come up with one if you use a long screen name and then it sticks. It will be interesting to hear more about your pond. I was gonna say that if you have a pond that doesn't have any good spawning area you might just make it a "put and take" proposition. Then I noticed your tag line. If you don't eat your fish then I guess you'd call it a "put and grow" pond. That's a good way to go especially if you don't have time to do all the biological balancing it takes to be a real pond boss. Just put in what you want, have fun feeding them and watching them grow.

Gotta get back to fishin!

Hello everyone!
I can't wait to see and hear about all of your ponds either! How do we put pictures on here? I have pics in Photobucket. I have only used it a few times for another forum. But I am going to find that pic of the pond before and during the dig. I'll put it on the pond boss home page.
I have always wanted a pond of my very own. Every since I was a little girl, I loved playing around ponds and finding frogs and tadpoles. The closest thing I had to a pond was a watergarden and I was very happy with that. After working for a wonderful boss for 20 years, she had her son dig me a pond. Right next to the house in the front pasture. I watched them dig all day, and finally at the end of the day, I had a crater in my pasture. The following June, 9 months later, my pond was full. And the water was flowing in one end and out the other. It was working the way everyone planned it. Because of the slope of the land, it worked out great. Every time I'd go fishing, I would bring some fish home and put them in the pond. I have about 12 sunnies and a few bass. Three turtles and one very big goldfish. The pond can hold more then that, but I love my little school of fish. When I go swimming, they follow me around the pond, I feed them out of my hand. I just love them. They swim right up to me and nibble on my chin. I love the frogs and the toads. My childhood dream came true! The pond is aeriated 24/7. In the winter when it gets really cold, the hole wants to close up. But the pump still runs. I pull the infuser into shallow water during the winter. They recommend doing that so you dont mix that really cold air into the air column.
Anyway, Thanks for letting me share my story. My little pond is the center of my life. I can't describe how much joy I get out of it and how blessed I am to have a pond of my own. but what is really a blessing is finding all of you. people who love ponds as much as I do. And don't worry, I won't hold it against ya if ya eat your fish!! Lol! And if it's easier for you, just call me Bobbi

FIF,
The Archives category is a great place for newbies to peruse for orientation and links to FAQ's. This link will take you to the thread created for posting pics .

Nice to have you aboard Bobbi. For me hearing about other folks ponds is one of the best things about PB. I don't know how many different states are represented here on the forums but I bet it is quite a few, and lets not forget our overseas pond meister Rad. I really like hearing about the different challenges that folks face - fellow pond meisters in colder regions that deal with freeze over, ponds in southern regions that have rather intimidating pond occupants (Gator's "Sneaky Pete"). Professional pond types and amateurs like me. And the varying backgrounds and experience of everyone is staggering.

One thing we all have in common is our love of our ponds. Half an acre or 20 acres we all love our puddles. Yep welcome to PB your gonna fit in just fine here.

Hi Everyone,
you had me laughing and crying all at the same time. I had no idea there were other people like me. I thought I was weird or something. I must be living a very sheltered life. This is the first time I have heard of people that truely love their ponds and there are even people on here that are crazy about their ponds! What a concept!I sure feel alot better about myself now and if someone wants to commit me to the funny farm, I will just point them to this forum. If I go, we all go!! \:D Safety in numbers you know!
Thanks for helping me post pics. Where do I find the pics of your ponds? Are they posted with our posts or are they in a special place on the forum? I'll have to do some exploring on this site and learn about all of this good stuff!! It says my html is not enabled. Is that going to cause a problem when I want to post pics? I'm also on a forum for Koi and on that one my html is enabled. Thanks for all the help!
Bobbi

Bobbi, what "handle" does Condello use over at the Koi forum?

Hi Theo,
Don't apologize! I dont. They can think I'm weird if they want to. Those are the kind of people who dont know how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. I got fired from a job a few years ago because one of the girls thought I was just terrible for going to the barn to collect eggs for breakfast. She thought that was, in her own words, "nasty". She took a dislike to me from that day on and got me fired for something she made up.We don't need people like that in our lives, they get in the way of our happiness. Now, back to the pond!!!!!
