Just a quick update, I had been watching one of my SMB doing the spring ritual of swimming around a nest and when my sister came to visit today she asked me what the small little specs swimming around were. Lo and behold there were hundreds of small little 1/16th of an inch SMB. Ahhh nice to see that they are spawning and I have some new ones out of it. Now I just have to have the YP do more than lay eggs.

As per below, SMB were 2 yrs old.

That is just so amazing; purt near hard to believe. I put my hand up with forefinger and thumb spaced about 1/16" and I just can't fathom the vision. Amazing!
That's great, Eric. Let's see that mazzo-mega pix camera focus on one of those buggers!

Get the smallmouth colored cigars out! \:D

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks the pond is about 4 or 5 yrs old. SMB 2 yrs and YP 3.

Cecil, I have some really tiny cigars but they are pound for pound as rich in flavor as any other type of cigar ;\)

Funny thing is wher the SMB spawned is not where I placed the sand and gravel for them to spawn. They chose a spot near a drop off where I just created a shallow area last year and it was mostly clay with some smaller rocks. The mother liked to stay on the ledge and drop off when needed.

On a daily basis now ( way different from last year ) I can see the SMB near the surface just sunning themselfs. At any given time can see about 14 on or around the surface or edges.

Now I still never see the YP unless I put in a line and drag them off the bottom.

Eric -- those smallmouth bass fry will stay pitch black until they get close to an inch long.

Cool, Greatpics. I am trying to get enough sun to take some of my own. The school I have is much more spread out and momma isn't around them much anymore. She swims past ever so often but not there all the time.
