Its been awhile since my last post,, I have been catching up on all your posts. Glad to see some of you have full ponds and are doing well. Here in Missouri places all around me have been flooded and we haven't had the rain and I have been worried about my pond. We haven't had much rain this spring, and my pond is as low as it was last fall. \:\( This time last year we were at full pool, if we don't get some rain soon we won't have a pond this fall just a mudd hole.
I guess what will be will be.

Any way I have been trying to catch some of the bigger CC and haven't had much luck. I did catch a nice healthy CC about 3 1/2 lbs. Looked good and fat so I know they are still doing well.
The weather has been rather cool this spring and I think it has the fish changed up. The CC were biting well the other day, then it cooled off and and they went to biting at night. I have left a few poles out all night kinda like a limb line with no luck, well all bad any way LOL. For the last week I have left a baited hook and a bobber, when I check in the morning I have found a broken 8lb line, a broken hook, and a broken 14 lb SpiderWire line, along with a few bare hooks and bent swivels. But I will persist and I "WILL" catch them LOL. I am beginning to beleave we have a monster Cat in there, possibly another Blue. I have thought about putting out a trot line, but what fun is that.. LMAO.
I have seen some nice Bass in there as well, but I'm not much of a Bass fisherwoman and haven't had any luck with them either. I have one LMB I call Banjo Bass cause when it hits the top of the water it has a hollow sound like a strum on a Banjo. I figure it is one of the first 3 we put in there and no tellin' how much it weighs. Should be fun when some one finally hooks 'um.

Well I really didn't have much to say just wanted to let you know I'm still around.

yO cHRIS,,,,
A lot of folks around the PB forum are into LMB's and all, and though I have bunches of those, I am waiting with baited breath on my CC getting big enough to EAT, and too, that is why I never name them... \:\) My question for you is, what are you using for BAIT that is attracting those BIG, hook straightening, line bustin' monster CC's??? Also, what kind of forage do you have in there that keeps those Cats growing? My BG and LMB population is going great, but I stocked about 200 CC last Fall, 6" and a bit bigger, and though they are not coming to the fish feeder (yet), I imagine they are hitting the BG fry. I'm going to buy me a underwater video camera this Fall to keep an eye on their growth and see if I have any "non-biters" in the years to come. No sense feeding that which I can't eat. At that point, the scuba gear comes out. :p

I would use bg with head cut off on the bottom on circle hooks.

Welcome back, NWW. Always good to have another devout cat man around. Be sure to see Catmandoos thread on Sadistic Fish, if you haven't already, under Q and O [sorry, I'm not sure how to put in the thread directly yet].

Maybe "The Pondmeister Formerly Known As Damn Yankee" can give me a pointer?

Open the thread in question, highlight the url (http: etc.) in address bar at the top of your browser, right click and copy.

Open the full reply form in the thread you wish to post in and click url. Paste the copied url into that box and click ok. In the next box that opens type in what you want to call the link, like This Thread or whatever you like. Click ok and the code you need will be entered wherever the cursor is at that time.

I think.

Yolk Sac, heh heh.

Double-Camp, Keith Wolfe has a good idea I have used BG heads and tails, works well. However I have been using chicken hearts and gizards, well seasoned, if ya know what I mean ;\) To get there size I have BG, Bass, and Fathead minnows, pluss I feed them. I had put 6-8 inch CC in my pond about 4 years ago, I was catching the big ones in about 2-3 years. Last year I had some 6-8 LBers. So hang in there you will get them there. \:\)

I wouldn't be surprised if you don't have a turtle breaking line and straightening hooks. Big snapping turtles eat most anything and can back away until something gives.

Bernie, I haven't seen any turtles..since hubby killed 2. I have spent many hours at the pond, its not very big so I would see them come up for air.

Speaking of shooting turtles I have a funny story for ya, Hubby came down to the pond as I was fishing, I had put a floater-diver grasshopper on with a bobber..(don't ask me why).. any way hubby had brought the 22 rifle since we had seen some turtles. Well my grasshopper was floating there and I moved my bobber and hubby said there is the turtle, I said where, he said close to your bobber. I didn't see it so I thought I would move my bobber again to get out of the way. Now each time I moved the bobber the grasshopper went under, when it stopped it floated. Hubby hollared "There it is!" and shot. I hollared "you shot my grasshopper!" he didnt understand what I meant till I reeled it in and all that was left was the piece that makes it dive and the ring that was attached to my line. LMAO He just looked at me and said, with a smug look on his face... "Good shot Huh!" :p \:D

welcome back NWW, i was in fact just wondering the other day what happened to you. i've been up at a jobsite in the mountains, and while taking a few moments here and there to look at the scenery, i remembered the beautiful pics from around yer place in the fall. good luck on the pond, droughts are no fun, i get them every summer.

Welcome back Chris. Get rid of the swivel and tie directly to the line. That's a weak point.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Thanks died and Dave1

Died I usually get the drought in the summer months and wouldn't be worried if we had gotten rain this spring to fill er up. But unless we have an unusual summer (and we might) I don't think the pond will last a drought this year. We have gotten just enuff rain to keep the grass growing, which is good for our horses. \:\)

Chris: Thanks for the bait info and encouragement! I have PLENTY of BG body-parts, though the more traditional "stinking chicken parts" sounds pretty effective also. I will try KW's suggestion first though. That seems to be the path of least resistance, IE easiest. \:\) My bride and I drive long-haul, DOD stuff supporting our troops, so waiting for the CC's to grow fat n' sassy isn't too hard, for we aren't home too much. Kudo's to your hubby on the awesome shot! ha* Loved that story! Gun control is indeed hitting your target! \:D
Our ranch is in Southern Oregon, so rain and full ponds are usually not a problem. Ours over-flowed Thanksgiving Day this last year, and has kept pretty full since with lots of ground water seeping in. Evaporation takes about 1-ft a month throughout the warm months, so we are blessed in that arena. We can take a 4' loss pretty easy, which is the norm, as the pond is 2 acres and 20' deep when full. But then too, some years we SWEAR we are growing webbed feet... ;\)
