Hello,
I've been watching this sight for a long time. I finally decided to join and participate. There is so much good knowlege here.
I have a 19 year old .75ac runoff pond. It is normally clear with a grassy bottom. I had lots of good fish in it but they were stunting due to my inability to kill fish.
The drought in CenTX was very bad and the pond went down to .33 ac for almost 2 years. While the pond was low I had it dug out to add .25ac of water that was normally just a shallow flat when full. A lot of the erosion controling vegitation was never able to grow so I had lots of bare soil. While it was low it became muddy while it was low and has stayed muddy. I have controled the mud with gypsum when it was low. The real problem is now that it has filled a rapidly growing floating weed has taken over. In just about a month it has formed a 8' wide barrier around 1/2 of the pond, even in the muddy water. I had a weed that was similar before. It grew purple flowers, but this one seems to be growing faster. It is growing in 4' of water even though it is muddy.
I have mostly bass and BG. A few catfish but not many. Any ideas on what to do? How would I find out what weeds they are?
I hope I gave enough info. I type with 2 fingers so I tend to be breif.
TIA, Mark

Thanks for the replies.
Ewest, I'm going to pull some weeds this weekend and compare it to the A&M site.
Heybud, I thought my user name was going to be KosseTX, which is where my pond is and is basicly where Bob Wills was born. Somehow it ended up as markp.
Can I change that?

Greetings, Mark. Click on "my profile" near the top of the screen, then click on "edit preferences". You can change your "Publicly Displayed Name" to KosseTx or whatever. Who is Bob Wills? Did he play for the Cowboys?

You can hear the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville Tennessee It's the home of country music,on that we all agree But when you cross that ol' Red River hoss that just don't mean a thing Cause' once you're down in Texas,Bob Wills is still the king

kossetx, you might want to get in touch with Overton Fisheries at Buffalo, just a few miles frm Kosse. Todd's a good guy but too busy delivering fish right now to even check the forum. http://www.overtonfisheries.com/DesktopDefault.aspx

I've heard of Rose of Santa Ria.
Josey Wales, you know.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Well, I have determined my pond has water primrose. Where on earth did it come from. I had none this time last year and my pond is COVERED in it this year around the edges out 10 feet from shore.
The TAMU site doesn't make it sound all bad and I rarely have time to fish anymore. Will it do my 1 ac pond any good? Do I leave it, try to control it, kill it all or get grass carp and let them have at it.
Thanks in advance for any relies. Mark

kossetex, Primrose is actually sold in nurseries to use in home ponds. I have some in one of my two ponds at home. Don't think I would put it in a farm pond. Maybe someone dumped an aquarium full of the stuff in your 1 ac pond.
In Dog Beers, I've had one.
