It's finally happened. Purina Mills keeps its finger on the pulse of fisheries management and Pond Boss. Dr. Mark Griffin, Director of Zoo and Aquatics, is a Ph.D in nutrition and loves to fish.
He has been watching the escalation of the feed trained bass phenomena along with the slower growth of recreational hybrid striper market.
He had the great idea to figure out how to duplicate the nutritional value of rainbow trout.
Read all about his method in the next issue of Pond Boss. It's a great story.
Anyway, the pellets are about an inch long, 3/4 wide and can be dispensed via a scatter feeder.
Since it's a new product, you won't find it on the floor of most Purina Dealers, yet.
But, you can have them order it. Call or go see your dealer and ask for product number 5DA1, prouduct number 66904. They will get it for you.

As i watch my HSB feed, i can't help but think about how much energy they are consuming. Striking with so much velocity over and over again. If the largemouth blend would fill them up quickly, the growth rate would have to escalate. Any problems with digesting such a large nugget?

Bob I'm not sure what kind of feeder you are talking about because when I was at the convention I asked both seeeney and aquapro if they had a feeder that could throw that big hunk of food and they both said no. I was thinking about just using that as something extra to throw out when I was at the farm. What feeder are you talking about?

I built my own floating scatter feeder out of a Remington Game Feeder, a 30 gallon garbage can, some scrap 2X4's and 4 plastic barrels, anchored out in the 'up-wind' corner. Works perfect and can be easily adjusted for this size pellet. With 3-5 Watt (Harbor Freight) solar panels charging the 12vlt battery, the Remington digital timer makes it all but keeping it loaded with feed a no-brainer. The 2 sizes of pellets will mean that I will now have to build a stand-alone LMB feeder just like it. If someone will explain to me how to post a pic in here, I'll post ya'll a photo and materials list for it. It's awesome to watch the fish feed twice a day, every day, right on time. It sure beats Prozac...

James,
Zach Sweeney is working on a directional feeder specifically for larger pellets. I have seen the design and it looks good. Prototype will be ready this fall.
In the meantime, scatter feeders have an adjustable plate underneath that allows for larger (or smaller) pellets to be released and thrown.

When I read the post on the next issue being late, I thought, " I can live with that". Now I'm pissed. Get busy. That article sounds of interest to me.

I can't wait to use those "dogfood" size pellets for my big bass! \:D And don't forget they are lower in carbs too!

It's about time someone is paying attention. Hat's off to Mark Griffin and Purina Mills!

An Aquamax customer forever!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
