Well here it is. The construction is finished after about 5 weeks of hauling dirt. The GPS says the pond is about 6 acres. It is hydroseeded with rye all the way around, and as you can see there is silt fence to keep the county happy. The spring that feeds the pond is in the lower right center of this picture. Not much bottom contour. I am putting some pallets out for the fish, but other than that and maybe some Christmas trees later, I am just hoping that this bottom has enough "character". I can't put the plug in until the guy with the telephone poles shows up later this week. I am putting in two docks using the poles, and I think it will be easier without water. Anyone want to guess how long it will take to fill? I'll post pictures as the water rises. Thanks to everyone here for the advise and support.
Wish me luck.

Congratulations. We'll keep our fingers crossed for rain. Keep us posted on how she's filling.

really really nice poseidon.....nice job. i'd love to guess, but wouldnt do so without knowing the production of yer spring (i.e. about how many gpm is spring?), add in rainfall, estimate pond volume and voila....get yer fill time estimate...

...amazing, awesome, exciting. That's a big pot of water! Is there any estimate as to how much dirt was moved, how much wound up in the dam, how much got exported, etc?

Congratulations. It's a good looking location for a pond with all those trees all around it. Gonna make for some amazing pictures next fall.
How deep is it?

My guess is that the spring flows about 100g/min. Again, just a WAG. The pond is about 6 acres with an average depth of 7 feet. Thats 13,687,800 gallons / 100h/min = 2281 hours = 95 days. That's if it doesn't rain, which it will. So I guess about two months. By the way, it has 320 acres of watershed, minor detail.
Using the same numbers, we moved 67,760 yards of dirt. In reality, we had to borrow some of the good red dirt from one area and replace it with bottom dirt, so it is easy to believe that we moved over 75,000 yards.
My pictures really don't do it justice, though.
If I may ask for some more advice, look at my pictures in my post over in the "Dam" topics and let me know what you think of the siphon system. It's two 12" systems. I got all my pipe and the design from PonDamPiping. Not trying to give a free plug, but they were very helpful.
Wish me luck.

Poseidon-
How about another picture of the house? Looks beautiful, right on the edge of the new lake. We're going to build at some point in the future, and I'm always looking for ideas. Thanks...

We actually have 2 houses on this pond. You may recognize this picture from another member on the forum. Shhhh...He doesn't want to spill the beans until it's full and beautiful. I have other pictures of the houses, but not any with a real perspective of the pond. The house with the red roof is installing a geothermal heat pump using the pond as a heat source. Both houses are about 250 feet back from the water.
Wish me luck.

I don't think it should be too hard to figure out.

Good job Poseidon and Mr. Secret Guy!! You can add cover structure as you go. See this link for ideas. http://www.pondboss.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000022 One of the benefits of the forum is our ability to share experiences wrt products and services. Stating that a product worked well and the people were helpful in not a sales pitch (unless you are the one selling the good or service).
