Any problem with cedar trees as structure? I had a few growing on my dam and thought I could cut them down and sink them with cinder blocks? Your thoughts...

Cedar has always been regarded as some of the best structure around, it's very dense, and it takes a lot longer to decay. Your best bet is to put the trunks in 5 gal. buckets, cement them in so they stay standing upright...fish love em'.

Fisherman Dan,
I know Crappie love 'em. When we fish on Lake Ray Roberts, you can fish at 1000's of pecan/oak trees and catch an occasional Crappie or Bass. But pull up to a Cedar Tree and WHAM! Tons of Crappie. I think the dense branch structure is what holds them.

I have always heard cedar trees make great structure. We don't have any cedars at all in this part of the country, but we do have plenty of junipers. I hope the crappie like them, because that's what they're getting.

bobad,
We have a lot of Junipers here too...for some reason around here folks call both Junipers and Cedar trees...Cedar Trees. Go figure. I think the Juniper trees would work equally as well as Cedars.
