1. Stock grass carp and tilapia in low numbers until magnitude of problem is established. Good advise for the novice but best to consult a competent fisheries biologist to determine numbers needed. We got into serious trouble last year by under stocking, that caused serious problems, and was corrected by stocking appropriate numbers.

2. Grass carp won’t eat water primrose. It may not be their favorite aquatic vegetation but they do a good job keeping it under control on our ponds.

3. Grass carp cannot be stocked in the summertime. This myth is supported by economics and not by biology. Suppliers cannot afford to take the time and expense to transport unless large numbers are involved. Our’s were stocked in mid summer last year. We were fortunate that our supplier had a large order for a nearby ranch.

4. HSB are a fragile species that will fight to their death. They will fight to their death unless landed quickly and properly revived. HSB are tougher that than their striped bass parent but not as tough as the white bass.

Any others???

Note: Opinions expressed above are based on limited experience and should not be considered advise in any way.
Consult with your professional fisheries biologist or consultant.

You can have quality results from a stock, fish and forget pond management plan involving LMB and BG.

A Copperheaded rattlemoccasin will not scare you when it pops-up hanging from your fish basket.

The answers to pond mgt. are simple and we know them , after all its not rocket science or brain surgery.

Dig a hole and fill it with water--you can grow 10 lb. bass.

If you are a remote land owner, it is a good idea to have one of the neighbors look out for your place. After all, you want to be a good neighbor.

Rain is dependable.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Other people's ponds leak, grow too many weeds, have stunted fish, or suffer fish kills - not mine.

I know what I'm doing.

Carrying capacity is unlimited. Especially if you fertilize and feed.

Always practice catch and release on LMB.

It is good to name your catfish.

The Sales guy has my best interest at heart and will give me good advice regarding crappie and HBG in my pond.

If you get bass heavy, just catch some of them.

Green sunfish will devastate your pond.

If you read enough and/or get a good formal education, you will not have to think as much or use common sense.

Plant lots of deciduous trees all around your pond. It shades the water and keeps the algae from growing.

Ignore Hydrilla and it will go away by itself.

Vast quantities of pollen floating on your pond is fun and profitable.

Purchase a property with a pond and you will work less, relax more, sleep easier and your troubles will just seem to evaporate (much like the water in the pond).
