If you're tired of this screwy weather we've been having take heart. I just spotted this on my NOAA NWS weather forecast. The cold is coming back! For those of us that like to ice fish.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!
If you don't like cold weather in winter well...tough titties!
"AS WE HAVE BEEN DISCUSSING HERE FOR SOME TIME...A MAJOR PATTERN CHANGE STILL LOOKS REASONABLE BY THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY. LONG RANGE ENSEMBLES STILL SUPPORT A MORE AMPLIFIED PATTERN AND SOME OF THE OPERATIONAL MODELS ARE SHOWING THIS AS WELL. LATEST OPERATIONAL GFS AT 240 HRS SHOWS -30C AT 850MB NEARING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. NAO FORECAST FOR 10 TO 13 DAYS SHOWING POSSIBILITY OF A STRONGLY NEGATIVE NAO. WATER VAPOR IS SHOWING A BLOCKING HIGH OVER FAR NORTHEAST ASIA THAT IS ALLOWING THE STRONG WAVES THAT HAVE BEEN EXITING THE ASIA COAST TO FINALLY RIDE NORTH AND BEGIN INTERACTING WITH THE VERY COLD AIR OVER THE NORTH POLE. THIS SHOULD ACT TO ENERGIZE THE NORTHERN STREAM DOWNSTREAM OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS AND EVENTUALLY ALLOW THIS COLDER AIR TO PENETRATE INTO THE CONUS. SOME DISCUSSION THAT THE DEVELOPING LA NINA HAS ALLOWED THE JET STREAM TO SHIFT NORTH AND BEGIN THIS PATTERN CHANGE."
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

CB1 : A couple weather notes from today. I don't know what is right. Moscow shivered through its fourth day of a cold snap, with temperatures dropping to minus 24 degrees overnight — the lowest recorded temperature on Jan. 19 since 1927, said Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a Moscow weather official. Temperatures in February should be above normal for the U.S. Mid-Atlantic states, a large part of the Northeast and most of the Great Lakes region, the National Weather Service predicted on Thursday. Hhmmmm !!

Cecil I can remember in '74 or '75 we sheared sheep middle of March (normally 12-15th) and a few days after we had sleet, lows in 20s and actually lost 200+ lambs. Old timers said they had never seen this. We were in an 18 month drought then. This was in west Texas. It was followed with June having 20 days or measureable rain.(ALSO UNHEARD OF!)
