Did a site search and found no entries later than 2002. Kellie Duffy alludes to a new herbicide about to be introduced for this purpose.Did this ever materialize? Is the best thing to spray these with glyphosphate still? If so, how strong, and is it too late in the season in central Oklahoma?

Adding a product to reduce the surface tension will greatly increase the products ability to stay in contact with the leaves of the tree. This will improve the glyophosphates effect. Using a paint roller is probably safer than spraying.

Unless I missed a recent post by Kelly, one of the last herbicides he mentioned was HABITAT. Although the post was related to the treatment of cattail, willows are extremely sensitive to HABITAT. I sprayed the edge of my pond with it and within a half hour got a quarter inch rain. It was as if the rain never occurred, and the willows were the first plants to be affected. HABITAT is very slow acting. In fact, you'll begin thinking that you'd better spray glyphosate. But wait it out. Prepare to float a loan to buy HABITAT - in the neighborhood of $400.00 per gallon as I recall, but you'll use a much lower concentration than with glyphosate. Although not approved for use in ponds, ARSENAL, a like herbicide, is only slightly less expensive.

I have used Habitat on willows and it works as Dudley says -- very well on willows and cattails. I have written several posts on what I observed. It also comes in quarts for about $75 and a quart will cover a whole lot of willows. I mixed a mid-range application and sprayed willows and all are dead . In about 1 week some leaves were brown and others wilting , 3 weeks all the leaves turned brown and soon after the stems and base were dead. The only question left is will they come back -- after 3 mths no sign of that happening. But be careful the stuff will kill trees and grass. Read the label and follow instructions. ewest Here is one report : http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=001889
