Actually it's a harder choice:

If you could either
1) manage pond(s) to produce the desired fish populations and sizes, but never do any fishing, or
2) do all the fishing you wanted, but without any pond management control or input,
what would it be?

(I suspect most of us would choose #1. I have decided I would, since I didn't do any serious fishing for 20 years before I got my pond.)

Ginger.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

If by "no fishing" you mean no fishing at my own pond (instead of no fishing anywhere) then I'd definitely take Ginger.

OK, if we're not talking fishing, then I'm changing my vote to Marianne. ;\)

#1 for me. But I'd have to be able to see the fish in the water swimming around from time to time.

Also, Ginger was too tall for me.

Cecil, nothing of course.

But Ginger was like 8' tall!! Then again, I was probably only 3' tall when I used to watch Gilligan's Island.

It's one of those impossible questions...impossible because I can't imagine my life without both. I love to fish the remote salt water flats that exist in few places in the World now and will never have any input into how they are managed...they hopefully will never be managed by humans in my lifetime. But #1 is also a big deal to me...nope, not gonna choose, don't have to take one over the other, want them both.

I think I am capable of doing all 4 with the same rate of proficiency.

I'll take the fishing.

While ponding is not quite boring to me, I don't get the same rush out of it as landing a scrappy fish. I don't find that ponding is an end in itself. It's mostly a means for me and my kids to enjoy the sport and relaxation of fishing.

That said, if my fishing goes bad, you can bet I will get busy and do some serious ponding!

To me, the fun is in the eating of the
cake, not in baking it. I haven't even
seen a couple of my ponds in the better
part of a year. That how much I'm
really into serious management. However,
I'm not slighting the merits of the accepted
methods for producing results that have been
discussed on this forum. But, sometimes, ideas
get a bit too laboratory-ish for my taste.

Ok, if I have these totalled up correctly, so far its:

6 - Pond Management Only (including rule benders who say they won't fish ponds they manage)

1 - Fish Only

3 - Optimistic Voters who pick both

1 - Cake

1 - Pie

1 - Ginger

3 - Marianne/Maryanne

1 - Optimistic Ladies Man who picks both

1 - Gilligan

For the record, if we're not talking fishing, then I pick Marianne - when she had amnesia and thought she was Ginger.

A man does need fish.

Theo, I don't think Rad picked Gilligan; I think he signed as Gilligan?

Rad can't be Gilligan; Gilligan was like 9 feet tall.

Gots to be Marianne for me. The other choice is a whole lot tougher, but I have to go with the fishing. I never would have dreamed it would become a tough choice rather than a means to an end, but pond management can become addicting.

P.S. It seems I heard that Elly May Clampet is now 77 or some such age. I just watched her on reruns last night. She was a very pretty lady.
