Sorry to mention this, George, but we had our first frost this morning. My thermometer said 31 when I let the dogs outside. However, a warm spell is now predicted for the next 10 days, so it was temporary.

The 61 Deg is nice. Even nicer though is the high temps in the low 80's! A man can work hard without needing an IV drip.

That's OK, ya'll up north; we'll be using topwaters and flies while you are ice fishing!

The front is just moving through my place. With highs in the upper 80 that will be a welcome site after the last week of 100+.
This was a late heat spell but I will take it if it means I can still be outside without have to be bundled up in the winter.

Spent the day at the farm. Morning 59 degrees--afternoon 79. Watched two young coyotes playing. Ain't life great.

You are a kind man, Eastland, to let your fish sleep in an extra hour. :p

52 here in West Central Ohio. Nice mist on the pond, enjoyed watching the dog chase some geese away.

ML :
If you are going to fire up your saw be sure to get plenty of bar/chain oil. Very hard to find around here for a while after Kat. So much demand/use even wal-marts were out. ewest

EWEST,
Yes, same thing here. I've had to use regular 30wt oil in mine because I can't find it either. I also need another chain and am still looking for that.

I once used nothing but motor oil. Then my brother, who knows a lot of East Texas Lumberjacks, told me all of the Pro's use Dura Tac or some other regional brand.
I also found it to be cheaper than good motor oil. I've switched but would still use the motor oil if I ever run out of the good stuff.
Hey, ML, I bought a 12 volt chain sharpener. Works great. I never was much good with the file.

Dave,
Can you provide more info on the sharpener? I need that badly. Where do you get one? What brand?
Thanks.

I have used 80 wt gear oil in a pinch. It clings to the bar better.

ML, it's made by Stihl and I found it at the local hardware store. As I recall, about $40 bucks. I expect most lawnmower and chain saw repair places carry them.
BTW, my local guy says that the first thing he does when someone brings in a chain saw that won't start is dump the gas and put new gas in it. Gas goes bad in a month or so. I use Sta-Bil. It's an additive to keep stored gas from getting old. What it really does is float on top of the gas in the can to keep it from evaporating. I've had no problems in chain saws, welders, trimmers, 4 wheelers, etc. Be sure to measure correctly because it does dilute your mix. The lubrication in the saw comes only from the mixed oil and it can be close tolerance.

I noticed yesterday the local Wal-Mart had stacks and stacks of chain oil and 2 cycle oil,,, right up in front of the store by the Halloween candy. Oh, but I'll be cranking my saw this weekend!
