We are hurting up here in the Catskills. Have not had any meaningful rain in over a month. Pond is down about a foot. Have been taking filametatious algae off the top each week along the shore line and now see a surface algae growth that almost looks like pollen dust. Does any one know what it is and how to deal with it. Have not taken water temperature but it feels like a bath tube when we swim in it. It's a very good thing that we have a good aeration system as with out it I'm sure we would be seeing a fish kill by now.

Havn't had meaningful rain here in 2.5 months, although there is a batch on the way.

You are not alone. I feel for you. We are still down 3.5 feet here and still waiting for some real rain. I have added over 80,000 gallons from public water to the pond to just try and stop the level from going too low.
I wish you all luck and tons of rain!!!

Still waiting and down another 6 inches and our pond does not leak a drop. This is all lack of rain and evaporation from the blazing heat we had.
Hope we see a tropical strom sometime soon but the next 10 days barely says a shower.

Wow you guys ever get forest fires up there in New York? Seems to me you would be in danger by now.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Looks like Katrina is aiming to have its center come right over my house if the projections are to be believed. We are being told that today and Wed we should get 4+ inches of rain. Which added to the run off should help me with filling up the 4+ feet I am down.
Yes we are in danger of forest fires up here. I have lost 6 trees over 50 ft tall in my yard this year due to a lack of rain.
I am going to be very happy to see it if it arrives, but my luck being what it has been thus far this year I am expecting it to suddenly jump down south of me when it gets within 2 miles of my house and not give me a drop of rain.
Good luck to all who need and don't need the rain from this storm.

That has been my luck with the rain this year. It rained four inches seven miles away and I only got nine tenths, but after seeing the destruction on t.v. I feel bad for the people that got too much.

I have been out in Katrina getting chores done. I don't think you guys in western PA or upstate NY have anything to worry about - you're going to get some significant rain.

Based on the toy wheelbarrow in the backyard, I would estimate we had received about 1.5" - 2" by the time it got dark. It has continued to rain ever since, looks like it will continue most of the night.
I don't have a rain gauge per se; I have a retired uncle with nothing better to do than get up at 0-dark-30 and check HIS rain gauge, then call his favorite niece-in-law. Then she calls me at work and gives me the Uncle Mutt weather report.
We've had enough rain all Summer to keep our fields green, but no runoff for three months - until now. The pond was down 8" yesterday and I figure it will be full tomorrow morning.

The rain in Monroeville, PA. just thirteen miles east of Pittsburgh has been mild all day. No really heavy downpours at all as of about 10:30PM.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

We're missing it AGAIN here in northeastern Indiana. At least we got some decent rain yesterday.

Ted, Congrats!!! We got about 2.5 inches here but with the seasonal creek running I was able to fill up most of the 4 ft that I was down. I am now only about 5 inches short of spring time full conditions. Nice to have it that way!!! Its amazing to see the seasonal creek running at about 500 gals a min into the pond. I am glad your fish are smiling. Mine are as well and I can now add my SMB that I have waited to put in over this past year. I will just have to wait for the mud to settle down and then its time to see how everyone did!

We got at least 4". My pond went up about 8", surprizingly still 1/2" below full. I'm glad I mowed close to the lowered water level last weekend, might not see it that low again until next year.
