It appears that at least for the forseable I'm going to be limited to one surface acre of excavation on my property. I'm going back and forth between a single one acre pond or two 1/2 acre ponds. I'm really interested in HSB, yellow perch, & CC, and feel like I might be able to have more options to play around with if I had two ponds... any thoughts?

Correct. You will have more options in the types of fishery if you have two ponds. One larger pond could grow more total fish weight and maybe somewhat more of the larger fish depending on management. If you are interested in a basic bass bgill fishery then the larger pond is better for usually growing more larger bass. Two completely different types of thriving fisheries for your fishing diversity could be established in the two pond system.

In addition to Bill's comments, another advantage of having two ponds is that if you do get to expand the total acreage down the line, you'll have one pond to keep all the fish while you expand the other, and then you can just join the two when done.
