People,

I have brought my pH levels up to 7.2 so far, and planning to add more lime to bring it up some more. Also, the oxygen levels tested out at about 9.8ppm, so Im happy so far. But I need to plan for more dependable O2
levels and only way is to buy/install an aerator system.

My pond is puny- just 1/8 acre. Planning to stock with bluegills only. But what system would you buy, economical, common sense, and just right for my small pond? I have an Amazon account. Any advice appreciated!

How deep is the pond at it's deepest point?

Pond is 10-12 feet at center, deepest point. Also, I spread out pulverized lime. A bit dusty, and wind blew a small amount of it away. Is pelletized a better option for a pond like mine? How long do these pellets take to dissolve and be effective?

Thanks.

You don't need the pH to be any higher, what you need to look at is the alkalinity numbers. Those should be over 40. We run in the 180 range up here in Northern Indiana.

For a compressor, you don't need much, 1/4 hp would even be overkill.

Good to know, Essup. I will try to keep pH at 7 or higher. I was worried as some references (UFL, U Miss) say pH should be around 8. Oh well. So, I have such a 'small" pump", a Jebo P-100, 60 liters/minute. Will that do?

Also, but will this aerator do or is that a piece of junk? Alternative?

Rootscape aerator

I have absolutely no idea. Without them listing the specs (cfm and psi) there is no way to tell.

What type of compressor are you thinking to use for the root scape aerator?
Bluegills only will severely overpopulate and stunt in that small 70ft X 70ft pond unless you stock only the males that you can catch and easily recognize during spawning season. Transport 5-8 each fishing trip. Haul them in plenty of water - maybe a garbage can with plastic bag liner. I would not put any more in that size of pond than 35 to then maybe 50 if you feed them high quality fish food as in 40%+ protein.

To answer your question about alkalinity I just tested it today and got 40 ppm CaCO3. I heard that to increase it you can use ag lime but over 50 ppm better to with calcium sulfate (gypsum). Is that true with you guys? Also, is pelletized lime better than pulverized? Will pelletized react in enough time?

I know I have a puny pond. I will have to watch the population. Hey, thats my pond. I wish I had bigger but around here one is lucky to have any pond, its not like I live in a rural area.
