Hi team,

I put 30 1 lb rainbows in my one acre clear Ohio pond in October with the intention of fattening them up for catching and eating in the spring. I am feeding them Aquamax 600 once per day in the same spot. My issues is that one day they will eat well and the next they won’t touch the food. Suggestions please?

Tony

Agree with BEPA.

Perhaps cut feed in half, and see if that makes them much hungrier on Day 2.

If not, then maybe there is something different at your pond on their "off" day. Are there any predators in your pond that would eat RBT?

I'm only feeding the fish in the pond for 1 second at noon on the TH feeder.

I recall lots of members that feed their fish saying that they significantly reduce feeding going into winter, or stop altogether.

What I do NOT remember is how much that is species dependent.

I assume LMB/BG ponds slow down feeding more during colder months as the water temp moves below the optimal range for those species.

Do walleye and YP (colder water fish) feed relatively more during winter months?

How do trout fit into the picture if there are differences?

I'm feeding because of the trout in the pond.
