Hey all,

I know fish can be harder to catch during low water conditions, however is it common for fish to totally quit hitting? My little eighth acre pond is down about a foot and we haven't had rain in several weeks. I can soak a life minnow on the bottom near structure without even getting a hit for days. The water isn't super clear due to dye, I would just think that fish are still eating even if they're stress due to low water? Surely I could not have had a fish kill without seeing any floaters right? It's just puzzling to me, but maybe normal.

Sometimes, a draw down situation provides more forage to the predator fish as there's less area for forage fish to hide out/exist.

I wouldn't think that would stop a fish from hitting a defenseless minnow.

Fret, why kind of fish do you have? Soaking a minnow generally says bass or cats. Do you have minnows or bluegills or?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

The better question is what don't I have 😂. I have LM, BG, HBG, YP, RE for sure. I've also recently added some SMB. I had a dozen WE I stuck in there a couple years ago but haven't seen any signs of them in the past year, it's possible there could still even be a few trout although I'm guessing they died. I last saw the trout swimming around the second week of July. I've stocked a good 15 to 20 lb of Shiners over the last several years but don't think I've ever gotten them to successfully spawn before getting eaten. There are plenty of crayfish in there, and the bluegill are still coming up and taking pellets, just no action from the bass or perch

With all those fish in there, and the pond being approx. 1/8 acre, it's a mystery for sure.
