In my (very limited) experience, AC powered electrical equipment seems to be less expensive AND have longer run times/duty cycles than the equivalent DC powered equipment. (I could very well be wrong!)
I am generally talking about relatively low-power requirements such as in the 200 - 2,000 watt range.
When using solar power for an aeration system, or even a water pumping system, does anybody know a good balance of trade-offs to determine when it is better to buy an inverter (and suffer some subsequent power losses) and switch to AC powered motors for DC supplied power?
Ancillary question: If you recommend using DC powered motors, what is the optimal voltage for the system if it includes a battery bank?

AC has a new Brushless DC pump in town that will change the face of brushed pump outlook for sure. I'm testing 2 new prototypes from Ingersoll Rand right now and I am extremely pleased with input vs. output so far.
