My pond has risen ~16" since the monsoon arrived in July, which is a really good thing, but the two very heavy downpours that
we've gotten over the past ten days have really messed with the water temps. The last deluge we got blasted my thermocline
to smithereens. Went from a 6°F delta from surface to 10' down to a 1.5° delta.
Yesterday evening the surface temp was 80.6° and we've gotten another 8/10th inch of rain since then.

I have a feeling that the situation may have gotten ugly without the aeration running.
The fish continue to smash pellets with gusto so I guess the water must be ok.

So that begs the question: Where did that goldfish/Koi come from in the first place?

The dog probably had to first rescue the fish from a hungry feline!

P.S. Humans have bred dogs to hunt a wide variety of specific game animals. The first person to breed an "otter and cormorant dog" will make a fortune from just the Pond Boss crowd alone!

First toad strangler in a very long time. Four inches in the last 3 hours and still raining west of Indianapolis. Update: Another 7 tenths and still raining... Sure glad our house is in a hill!

We had those last week, a total of over 6.5" in under a week, didnt realize how quickly it can go from a drought to a nuisance. It wasnt too bad, helped the farmers some, too late for the corn but did wonders for the beans and late pastures, including topping off some watering holes for cattle farmers. I just sorta got hammered really bad, we were finishing up a RV park addition and the powder dust we had pushed around for a week and the rock we had put down for roads and parking spots all eroded something fierce because the dust under it all turned into straight water slush.

RAH, glad you got some rain, and good rain at that. We're on our feast or famine summer cycle, where we get a ton of rain or none.

I need to get to my place and look at ponds. Our temps have been up to 110 there and 106 to 108 for another week. I’m sure one small pond is dry and my original 1/3 acre one might be. My 2.5 acre one is probably now no mare than an acre.

And yet, do I really want to go there in those temps? Well, it beats hanging around the house in Fort Worth.

Dave, when your big pond refills, check on prey fish. Last year my pond got 3 feet low, and most of my 3 to 5 inch BG disappeared, presumably into a LMB gullet. No hiding places. I ended up stocking some more BG of that size.

We’ve been getting some rain at our place. I was there a few days ago. I think it’ll save some trees. It’s certainly bringing back the grass and weeds. I’ll bet we’ve had 3” this month. However, we were so dry, and the rain came slow enough, we’ve had zero runoff. My pond is now down over 2’. Fish are still very active when the feeder goes off. Hopefully this fall we’ll get a storm with some runoff. I planted four food plots for when I saw the rain forecasted. All four are up and growing. Last august when I planted, it was the start of the drought. This year I plant, hopefully it’s the end of the drought. Local corn crops are horrible. Talking to a neighbor, he says they still have to harvest in order to collect payments. Seems like a waste of diesel.
CRP is now about a foot tall. So far, it’s mostly the Korean lespedeza that has come up. Some of the warm season grasses are starting. Plus a lot of weeds. So far the deer don’t seem all that interested in the lespedeza. That’s got me a bit concerned. I’m definitely seeing more turkeys though.

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.

Anth, I expect to have to buy feeder size fish next year. Of course, in this drought with weeks of air temps pushing 107 and 108, I’m not sure what I’ll find this Fall.

Finally convinced a neighbor to come remove all the channel and blue cats that they can catch…. We will see if they show this evening. Can’t believe it’s so hard to get anybody to come catch all they want for free.

If my Star Trek teleporter system was working, I would definitely come down to Texas this evening and help with your catfish removal project.

Unfortunately, my system is down and I am waiting on parts. mad

Hopefully, your neighbor crew will show up for you. Can you post some pics if they get a few whiskered hawgs?

Sadly, at my place the people who come catch all they want for free aren't always those who I invite.

Pat, if you do take some pictures on your cell, you could email them to a PB buddy who can post them for you.

They came prepared to fish in shark infested waters , heavy wire leaders popping corks for trout and redfish and big 7/0 circle hooks…… needles to say didn’t catch much at all. As much noise they made on floating pier the fish vacated the area . Not sure how to instruct folks to be quiet and use as light of tackle as you can…..as an ex guide you know how to but hard to tell someone not to use a 4 oz weight and double drop steel leader made for saltwater use

We've had right at 4" so far this month. The pond is still filling nicely and we've gained about 2-3' of water depth. Hopefully this will keep all my new grass around the pond alive so it'll stop the influx of mud every time it rains.

What I did yesterday when the high temp was down to a pleasant 98 for a high.

Wife and I drove there and got on 4 wheelers. Rode by big pond and it is down a lot due to our heat wave, probably gone down 3 ft in the last 10 days. That makes it about 6+ ft low. Cedars that I cut and put, with weights, into the water on the banks were high and dry.

Went to the back of the property to our green sunfish pond. On the way I noticed that the spring fed creek was out of business. That’s the second time it’s happened in approx 40 years. The 1/4 acre pond was down about 4 ft. We tossed out some fish food to the green sunfish. I expect a fish kill here.

Went by another couple of small shallow ponds that were dry. I don’t stock them.

The drought hasn’t ended and 100+ temps are coming back with a vengeance. Supposed to be 108+ this coming week.

I have heard that every drought is broken by a flood. It needs to get here in a hurry.

That's kinda what happened here, went from drought to flood, after a yr of way below average rainfall we have come up with the second wettest Aug on record, within an inch or two of back to normal rainfall for the yr this far, all of it in August.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not complanin, but it would have been way better served if it was spread out over the last 8 months. but beggars cant be choosers. we havent had a lot of extremely hot weather, a couple weeks that were pretty muggy.

Its too late for most of the corn, its going to be pretty mediocre, the rains came too late for it but most of the beans are looking amazing! I think I have counted upwards of 11 inches in the last three weeks. the ponds for the most part are full and mine has been running over since the first rain.

Wish I could spread it around for everybody, we musta been living right! the grass is greener and growing faster then it did last spring.

I cleared some trees for a couple more food plots a month ago and been wanting to get some fall food plots planted but its been too wet, may be able to get them in this weekend.
