I thought I saw this duo stop by the pond about a month ago but they were only there briefly. Another pair showed up this morning. I got photos only at super long range zoom. Can someone help identify?
My initial guess is Gadwalls. However, most ducks are molting in the summer so even the drakes look drab. Plus this years hatchlings are 3/4 grown up and look pretty plain as well.
"Politics": derived from 'poly' meaning many, and 'tics' meaning 'blood sucking parasites'.
Thanks for the help Dr. Luke. I could see from the distance I was at that they were about the size of mallards but seemed to have more elongated and taller head/neck portion and maybe a fuzz longer from front to back. Coloring more drab and although I assume the pair was male/female, their coloring was fairly similar. I thought I could make out a little color (white/dark) under the wings so I think Gadwalls is correct!
Hope they come back and I can get better pictures.
