Hey guys have any of you come up with a creative way to automatically feed large pellets like Sportfish Largemouth? It's not recommended to try using my Texas Feeder due to the size of the pellets obviously. Just curious if there are other options.

Bob Lusk had tried a feeder that was supposed to throw largemouth sized pellets 5-6 years ago, but since we never heard back about it, I assume it didn't do well. Sportsman Largemouth is pretty grainy, and I'm not sure it would flow through a feeder anyway. The grainier the pellet, the more likely for it to bind. Also, if you feed SL, it might be more palatable if it was wet. My feed trained LMB weren't big fans with the pellets right out of the bag.

How long do you soak them before tossing?

When I was feeding Aquamax Largemouth to LMBs, I just tossed in 2-3 pellets at a time and they snapped it up. No soaking required.

I agree with Theo. If your bass know how to eat pellets and the bass are at least 14" long then they should be able to eat the dry LMB hand throw pellets. No soaking required. However if your are trying to feed the 1" dia hand throw pellets to bass smaller than 13" then soaking would help these smaller bass swallow the softer damp pellet. IMO soaking time would be at least 8 hrs due to the size of the pellet and how long it would take the moisture to soak into the middle of the pellet. Do some experimenting with your batch of pellets. Some pellets definitely soften faster than others even from the same brand - in my experience. When first soaking the pellets do not add enough water to create a gravy that leaches nutrients and vitamins from the pellet.

When using Optimal Hand Throw wrapped in a scrap of stocking to catch my HSB I find they (the pellets, not the fish) turn to mush in about two minutes.
The Hand Throw pellets seem to be less dense than the smaller varieties from Optimal.
Very good advice to experiment with it.
