I am in the process of building a 14 acre lake between Bonham and the Red River. The drainage area is about 1400 acres. Do I need to hire a engineer to design the dam and spillway? The water depth will be about 15 deep.

I would call Mike Otto. You can find contact info on him in the links on the home page. He is in the Sherman/Denison area and is highly experienced and respected. Discuss the matter with him, show him the site and get his thoughts. I'm sure that if he thinks you need an Engineer, he will say so.
