The new Pond Boss arrived yesterday, May 16, '05, in Pittsburgh, PA.
Was anyone else experiencing problems logging onto the forum yesterday?

Yes, I had trouble logging in yesterday. No, I haven't received my PB yet - my mailman takes forever to finish reading it.
Just do it...

I'm afraid (no info, just fear) the forum has gotten so popular it's overtaxing the PB servers.
Hey, Bob Lusk, yesterday I decided that I WOULD pay a subscription for online PB service. I gotta have my forum fix (Oh, yeah, that's the stuff)!

Theo's post brings up an interesting question. So let me ask it:
Assuming that both cost the same, if you had the choice of paying for the magazine, or paying for access to the forum, but NOT both, which would you choose?

I had trouble getting on the site too. Sounds like many of us had the same problem. I got this message: Software error: Could not perform buffered print to '/home/users/web/b413/as.pondfp/ubb/cache-TGEXWPZJ/ubb_files/counter/2005-05-dynamic.cgi'. The disk is out of space - I was unable to write a new file. Please ask the administrator to contact the web hosting provider. The exact error returned by the operating system is: No space left on device For help, please send mail to the webmaster (Webmaster), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. Now I just have to call and see why I'm not getting the magazine. Before I was getting two at a time and I called in and had that corrected. Now I am not getting any.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I emailed Lusk yesterday and told him that I felt like someone had gotten me hooked on free cocaine and then withdrawn it. I was definitely assaulting his character with some of my comments. All I wanted to know was what will it cost.
Being a person of questionable character, he didn't respond.
I also told him that a new survey might get a different response regarding being a subscription site. My wife said she was going to unplug the home computer if I didn't quit checking it. Good thing Meadowlark is off tarpon fishing in Mexico. That guy knows how to build rockets.

May-June PB magazine came to NW OH on Monday.
I think that more frequent posting all those pictures has consumed more disk space than was planned by the webmaster. Pictures consume a tremendous more amount of memory space than just text.

The pictures shouldn't use a lot of space on the system here. As with many message board systems, the pictures are hosted at a remote site (such as Photodump, Village Photo, another website or ftp site, etc.) and are not actually on the Pond Boss servers. Don't know how it affects traffic / bandwidth issues, however.

Did I misunderstand or what? I was told to expect the ultimate article on fertilization in this issue and scanning through the magazine last night after getting home from a long plane flight from Mexico I didn't see it. Did I miss it? Where are all the surprising answers to our questions on fertilization?

Meadow -- the article is on pages 44-45. At the end of the article, Bob asked for any potential participants.

I would gladly pay a subscription fee especially if it prevents the loss of all the past data on here! There could be a "free" section & the forum could be "subscription only".
Another site I frequent has had numerous crashes & is down now. Twice we have lost all past posts on the site.
Now that would be catastrophic on this site!

I would pay RIGHT NOW to have some knowledgeable forum member save all historical posts to CD. Is it really possible that previous posts could be lost?!? That would truly be catastrophic. I'd be surprised if anywhere in the world exists such a wealth of useful information on ponds and pond management. I'm serious. Is there anyone out there who can archive this treasure?

Yes it can, and did happen to this very forum. The original PB forum was attacked by a brain dead hacker just over 2 years ago in April '02. All the previous posts were lost at that time when this one was started.
The search feature we have now is not the best but with a little searching around you can usually find the topic you are looking for and it sure beats not having it at all.
That is why it is so important to post questions under the approipate topics, as many have suggested, so they are easier to find when you are searching for past posts.
Mistakes are proof that you are trying.
