I bought some property May 2004 with a 2-3 acre pond. The pine trees are about 30 years old around the pond and on the dam. I have read that I should not have trees on the dam. It does not appear to be leaking. Should I remove the trees?

"If it ain't broke don't fix it. If they haven't caused a leak in 30 years I would leave them alone. If you cut them down the root system will die and surely start to decompose leaving voids which could spring you a leak.

I'd say leave as is. But that's just my opinion. Maybe someone else can chime in.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

darwin,

I agree with Cecil. Not leaking, don't fix it. Just keep a sharp watch for dam leakage and immediatly fix the problem using benonite.

You may consider removing trees that are not on the dam as they can use a lot of water and pines can cause the water to become acidic.

Good luck,

Dennis
