In the Fall, we bought a bag of fish food. Some of it appeared to have mold, so we didn't use it. What's the best way to discard it? I didn't know if it would harm wildlife if we just threw it in the trash can and it was taken to the dump. Would it be better to bury it? I think it was a 25 lb bag. It wasn't convenient to return to the store and wasn't the expensive feed. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Moldy fish food won't be the worst thing wildlife at the dump has to eat.

Just throw it in the compost heap.

We had a faulty feeder lid that came loose during a windstorm. Rain got in food, and after a couple weeks the stench was unbelievable.
I dug it out, close to vomiting every minute, and a buddy dug a deep hole where we buried it. Placed a large rock on top just to be sure.
Something -- dogs, coyotes, who knows -- dug it up and ate it.
I recommend you bag it up and place it in garbage. You do not want it on your property, if my malodorous experience is anything to go by.

Maybe it was feral hogs, I don't know. But even if we used a rock five times as large, I suspect whatever would have dug around it to get down to the "treat."

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I think I will just put it out for the trash.
