I have anticipated the sighting of bass all winter until yesterday. I finally saw 3, 6-8" LMB. I had a cold rain kill several of the new stockings, along with several new stock and some additional adult bluegills in late October, 2004. I have litterally 1000's of tiny 1 - 2" Bluegills surrounding the 2.5 acre pond. I think I should add some additional bass to keep the gill pop. in check but wanted to pose the question here first. Any/all opinions are welcome..

Thanks, FH

1,000's of small bluegill is what you want to see. I would wait a few months to determine if you have hundreds of 3-5 inch bluegill. This is when you do not have enough bass. I would hate to see you stock too many bass in a knee jerk reaction. No problem adding them later if need be.

Went fishing in the pond last weekend a couple of times. I was able to bring in about 10 different bass and twice that many gills \:D . The bass were in the 7-9" length and the gills were in the 6" range for the bigger ones. It was so rewarding to finally be able to enjoy the benifits of the pond after watching 3 kills in the past 6 years I have been watching, and stocking it. I think you were right, Greg, in telling me to hold off. Thanks!
