I want to add a floating pond fountain this year to my one acre pond. The commercial units are really expensive for a decent size pump. I'm looking at a 1-2hp units. My question is, can a DIY guy put together a floating pond fountain through commercial pump sources and save some money? I did this last year with my aerators and save a bunch over commercial kits.

Was your aerator AC powered or solar powered? I'd like to add either a solar fountain or solar aerator. Pond is only 1/6 acre so I don't need much. It's also stream fed most of the time.

Hi I feed water into my .4 acre pond from a well to keep it topped off. I used an old lobster trap float and a shower head to make a fountain. I used a 3/4 inch piece of pipe to go through the float and then a 3/4 to 1/2 inch reducer to attach the shower head. I also drilled the inside portion of the casing for the shower head to make it as large as possible. I then attached my tubing to the pipe tied a rope to it and a 10 pound weight to it. You can adjust the pattern that you get with the shower head so it worked out pretty good. Here is a shot of it in action from about 50 ft in the air hanging off my antenna tower. Bob
