Hey guys my pond is officially about nine months old and is almost full.

It is 2.3 acres and about 20 feet deep. I’ve added fat head minnows a few walleye (6) a few SMB (5) and 200 breeder YP

Bc of construction on pond (and on property) and the runoff going into the pond, turbidity was an issue. Now that grass is planted it’s getting under control.

I also did a water bottle test and all the clay settled in about 3-4 days so I wasn’t worried.

Now that the pond has begun to clear up, I’m getting a nice green tinge to the water. My only issue is on the shoreline where I plan to put eelgrass and other plants, it has begun to get a particle build up of algae.

Is this slime algae or should I worry at this stage in my ponds life about this???

I’m waiting to plant my vegetation till the pond is full or close to full. I’m about 4’-5’ away from full.

No fertilizer has been used on property

No livestock

No run off issues

All runoff comes from up hill on my property which is acres of open unfertilized field driveways and homes. All ours and under our control.

It sure looks like FA (slime algae). I had it pretty good the fisrt year of my pond's renovation and it has slacked off alot since then. Your bloom (green tinge) looks real good! I would not worry too much about it at this point and see what it does. A new pond that deep should not go crazy with FA especially without any fertilizers running into it. I suspect that my first years FA attach was due to clearer waters, minimal blooms, and left over muck left in the pond basin (you just can't get it all out). Your case might just be the early clear waters and nutritious topsoil residuals. At any rate, it's not "bad" algae like the blue/green cynobacteria algae, just the regular ole' FA. You may find that it grows well, dies off, and then floats around the pond with hopefully alot less next year.

Fish on!,

Yea I know there’s really nothing I can do now but I’m glad I’ll probably get good color and bloom of phytoplankton at least.
