I live on a small lake which I've put a few golden shiners and small bluegill. Already has a lot of LMB. Was surprised to catch this beauty.

Is that a tropical Peacock or more northern variety?
Beautiful fish!

It's a butterfly peacock. They are on the East Coast, Miami area mostly. They made their way to Naples on the West coast through the various canal systems. They are not supposed to be this far north, this is the farthest North I've ever seen one. I'm guessing someone had some in an aquarium or was breeding / selling and decided to can the operation and dumped them in this lake. This is the only larger one I've seen, but there's a bunch in the 6" range.

Nice looking fish. It is always cool to see something you don't get to see everyday.

Thank you! I plan to build a floating dock at some point, and manage the food chain to hopefully grow some nice bass. This looks like a great place get tips, and gain knowledge.

Welcome to PB

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I wouldn't be surprised if you found a snook or even a tarpon in the lake. They seem to find a way through canals or high water evens too.
