We had a old pond dug out and enlarged back in October. Didn’t stock anything till 3/26/20. We stocked 3lbs of shiners,3lbs of minnows,40 5-7” yellow perch,10 hybrid stripers,50 red ears, and 2 grass carp. On 4/4/20 I found what appears to be perch eggs. I was really surprised because the perch looked to be on the smaller side. But I’m excited if they did actually spawn that soon after stocking.

To me it's no surprise that some of your perch are females. This past winter I ice fished a local lake that has a gross overpopulation of YP. Of the approximately 60 perch I brought home and cleaned, every one was laden with eggs. They ranged from very small-5" long, to moderately small-7". That's a lot of puny perch fillets; oh but they're tasty in tacos.

Yes, it would be wonderful if the females were 8" and up, but isn't necessarily so.

I just finished helping sort several thousand perch and the owner is marketing the smaller, 3-4" size because of the number of fish and still taking the genetics home. We had these in a 6'Wx 2'Dx 20'L.
On morning 2 when we came back with next load the overflow from this tank was completely plugged with ribbons, like a full 5gal bucket worth. 3/8"-1/2" wide ribbons.. cute if nothing else. Seeing this I think I have underestimated the YP as a survivalist.
