So, we had a ~3 acre pond that was 50 years old. This pond is below a larger 20 acre pond that feeds into it during rainy season. The pond dried up 4 years ago so we busted the dam and dig out some and raised the old dam 4 feet which made the new pond 10acres with some 20 foot water. The pond has very little cover and has an underwater island that is covered in trees that are still somewhat alive and green in the spring summer. We stocked with bluegill, red ear, fat heads, crappie, bass and channel cat. It also has a natural shad population that comes from the above pond/lake system. The fish have seemed to have taken hold, are healthy and growing at good rates.
Every year since we rebuilt the pond It turns a green tint very little “visible” algae along the the shore. This occurs around spring and lasts through fall. Is this something common with new larger ponds? Will it pass with time? Is it a problem and if so how should I go about correcting?
