My wife made me sell our country home and move to town. She also let me buy 15 acres just south of town that borders 3000 acres of goverment river bottom land.I hired out to build a drive way and a small 1/2 acre pond. The 1st day my contractor came to me and asked if he could sell the dirt he was excavating from my pond.To make a lomg story short my 1/2 acre pond is going to be 4-6 acres. He is doing the work for free and after he sells the 1st 100 dump truck loads we are splitting the profits 50/50. He sold 96 in 2 mouths last summer thinks it may take 2-3 years to sell it all.

WOW!! I was thinking when I start to build my new house that I would have them dig the spot for the pond and use that dirt to level off for the spot the house will be built..If anything is left over I'm going to try to do a deal like that too...

drdan,
In florida you have to have a mining permit if you want to remove dirt from one piece of property and put it on another. Doesn't matter if you are giving it away or selling it. If it leaves the property it is considered a mine. In Manatee County the permit is $300 bucks or so, dont know about Ocala. The problem is that with the permit comes a further inspection of the amount of ground water that is being trapped. Then comes Swiftmud. Then comes head aches. Dig your pond and keep the dirt. Or...........perhaps digging on a Saturday and Sunday, through the night, with 5 dump trucks, front end loader and excavator running full bore is something you would like to witness. Not that I am suggesting that nor have I ever witnessed anything like that.

Yeah, I will probably just keep the dirt and use most of it to use on building the house anyways...

Steve your property must be near the Prinston/Wapsi Refuge?

If so, let me know if you need any Wild Turkey's removed this spring!

I tried to talk my wife into buying property up that way but she insists that if we move to the country that we must move west into the flat(expensive farm)lands...

Oh well \:\( I can dream.

Tim my property is just up from the wapsi bettween Camanche and Follets.I think you would do well on Turkeys.I've only owned the property since July but have seen TURKEYS.The only way to the public land is through mine or anouther land owners.Since I am basicly a bow hunter for deer youre welcome to try your luck on gobblers.

I know the area!

Great catfishing in the sloughs in that area especially as you get closer to the Mississippi.

And lots of turkeys...I bet its a great place to bow hunt deer.

Good find. Now if only I could get my wife's permission so I could make a similiar purchase!

Bates:

Some people just can't understand the thrill of sitting alone on the ground, in the timber, at 4 AM, in pitch black darkness, in 40 degree weather...Then they hear that fist gobble and a shortly thereafter, a second...

And by the 3rd gobble, they are hooked!

Don't tell em Tim -- keep it secret. I started on those birds about 10 years ago and my spring fishing went out the door and now I hunt at least 3 states a year for those crazy gobbling fools. No one needs a habit like that.

Last year, my 7th hunting, I finally bagged on of the danged things. Wifey can't understand why I'll take off for a few days and hit the timbers way before dawn just to hunt turkeys.

Year before last we left on a Thursday eve for the 90 min drive to where we hunt and wife spies a tom in our driveway at 6AM the next morn. Ah well...we have a blast for those 3 days...

In a lifetime, the average driver will honk 15,250 times. My wife figures I'm due to die any day now...
