Can some of you farmers tell me how much one of these should cost? I'm thinking bout a spring project. Cabin fever has me wanting to be outside. And it hasnt even been a bad winter.
I would expect anywhere from free to $1000. The free would be if you know someone is getting rid of old bins.
Frank, my cnbg have feed fairly aggressively daily this winter. Most likely due to a mild winter other than for maybe a two week period during Feb. Every pond/lake is different. Do you think all the predictors are having an effect on your cnbg feeding at the feeders? Or did you stop feeding and they have not come back to feeding station at this time? And Blasted cormorants, that's what I would do!
Zep, opps that's a beaver my bad
Weird, isn't it? But creel results show the same at my place: CNBG totally absent. My son did see tons of tiny "minnows" near the dock, which I'm guessing are actually results of first LMB spawn.
Craigslist free section is a great place to look. Found an almost new stand for my son's bearded dragon aquarium. Also stall mats for the horses and stall front doors. That was a huge score!
Also, I wonder if the top or bottom could be taken off and it could be used to protect newly planted water lilies or eelgrass from turtles, crawfish, grass carp, etc. At least until they've grown up. And all the while also providing shelter for YOY fish.
If you're going to order any more of those kennels, I would contact your local animal control departments. After some time, they rotate those out and get new ones or have new ones donated. You can get them free or on the cheap.
We had a guest who just got back from being away from his two boys for the past year. David is serving with the military. He and his two boys came out along with the boys 90 yr old great grandfather. Fishing from the pier they had a blast catching some bg up to 10" maybe even larger, and one hsb that they said it had to be 8 lbs. lol. Not sure about the weight of the hsb because they had no scales to weigh that fish that was caught and released. But if they thought it weighed 8, it will still make a great fishing story. There could/might be an 8 lb'er in the pond. The grandfather was catching the largest bg he had ever caught. They kept 8 bg in the 7" size and cleaned them and cooked them up at the pond.
Trophy pond is working and my pond goals are being met. Take a kid fishing.

Started building my fish highway yesterday. Sinking some cedars standing up. Purpose is to provide some pathway from deeper water to a shallow area TH feeder. Most of this area is a shallow flat that is 5 to 7' in depth and about an acer in size depending on what time of year it is. Water temp was 60 @ the surface and 56 at 4' depth. A high pressure day/ bluebird skies with very few CNBG feeding at the feeders. The HSB were actively feeding on something at the surface.

Set some 3 inch schedule 10 pipe through the Ice for piers on this springs dock project. Ice is melting off fast in South Dakota. Diffusers and warm nights are eating away at ice like crazy. Only open fishable water in the county, almost like I’m trying to attract cormorants 🤮🤮🤮
We had ice out here last weekend and I have found just seven RES morts over the last week. Today I went and sampled fish with a rod and reel, I caught 12 SMB, 7-8 RES, and 3 GSH. Water temps are probably still in the low 40s. Two of the RES had red blood in their fins which is probably cold water related to ice out. Things look good.
Proud great great great great great grandpa lol (who's know many)
Wish my water visibility was even half wht many of you have. Hoping for a better summer. This forum has caused me 2 start thinking about things I never even gave 2 thoughts about. By then end of the summer I thinkni will have better visibility.
Bought a pound of fat head minnows and went fishing for crappie that I haven’t seen in a while. Didn’t catch any crappie but started catching LMB 8-9” and removed them . Several were 2-4# removed them also. Think I’m overloaded with LMB causing the decline of BCP. The larger LMB are fat but the 8” are thin for the most part. Any ideas how many LMB to remove to change the dynamics of a six acre pond?
We had a funeral at the property. Does anybody else have friends asking to bury their pets at their property? A friend asked we agreed the ashes could be interred.
Actually I guess we had two funerals...got another otter coming up the creek before he got to the pond.
Caught a nice sunset Sat night.
Hung a cute sign...made to make the bad guys think.
Oh and a guy dropped a cedar tree for me and said "rather than haul it off ya want me to make a small bridge?"...I said sure why not.
My nephew caught this nice gravid female YP through the ice on a gravel pit not far from Lake MI. Exciting to think how many YP in the great lakes watershed are getting ready to lay eggs. It looks like there are 20,000 eggs there! Hopefully the conditions are right (not much wind, gradual warm up, no cold snap or ice over) for successful spawn and lots of fry!
My 9 year old grandson filleted a fish for the very first time! About 12 inch bass, he did very well for a beginner. As always, fresh fish you caught yourself tastes better than anything in the store.
