Well, as I was warned my pure Florida lmb are being extremely hard to catch. I have never fished for bass with live bait but have only watched Roland Martin do it on tv with "balloons" for corks. Can anyone give me advise and technique on how to properly do this? I was a pro bass fisherman for 15 years but of course could not use live bait. Only 6 miles down the road we have a wholesale live bait distributer so I can buy minnows, golden shiners (trotline shiners) and a lot of times goldfish. Also I can catch varies size cnbg from the pond if needed. I have caught near 6 pound lmb so I suspect I have at least some 8 pounders in my 2 acre pond and probably larger because I seem to still have a huge supply of different size cnbg in there. I really need technique advise!!

Flame, what worked best for me in Oklahoma where I grew up was to use a clear plastic bobber and drop the bait about a foot or so below the bobber with no weight let the bait swim free. I used golden shiners and the larger ones in the 4" size worked good. If you can find the bobbers that let u add water inside them for additional weight worked best. If needed u can cut the tail fin back on the shiners to where it can move it's tail but little movement gives it some added attraction.

Checked with my bait distributor and he does not sell GOLDEN shiners. Just larger regular shiners which are only 3-4 inch long. Those will have to do and maybe a small cnbg. Tracy how big of cork? Baloons used in Florida looked pretty large. Also I have researched to use circle live bait hooks. Must wait a good while to set the hook.?

Flame I ve never seen a florida bass, but I ve fished often northern bass with live bait.
I can t gurantee my method will work for you too, but here is a blast.
I don t use cork or balloon, I tie a 3/0 circle hook directly to the line, then put a minnow/shiner/goldfish by mouth, passing the hook from below to above. Sometimes I cut the tail fin a little. I cast it where I think the bass is and, if there is, the attack comes almost immediately. You see the line go rocket, but you don't have to pull the rod fast as if you had a normal hook, but slowly raise it and the hook will set itself.

James, you could use small CNBG or LMB as bait. LMB might be preferred due to fusiform shape being easier to swallow.

Flame, in Okla we called them Arkansas shiners. We call them trotline shiners here in Shreveport. The largest you can get works best for larger sized lmb but smaller works alright. As far as the bobber its called a spinner bobber. I use braded line attached to the top of it and then tie fluorocarbon to the bottom of the bobber and a circle hook. No need for a hard hook set, just apply a little pressure and reel. Two fish pics I posted today under grandsons fish were caught this way. Great way to help a non fisherman or pressured fish to catch some nice fish.

I have personally found that a 4 inch free swimming bluegill works best
