Contact the local NRCS office. They maintain a list but can't discuss the pro's and con's of them.

I live in Covington, and have had two fairly large ponds built. You can see them on my web site. I know a contractor I would recommend who built my last pond. Depending on what size pond you are looking to build will determine who you should choose. It's been about 6 years sense I used him. It really depends on how big and what kind of pond you are looking to build. Give me a call 254-854-2217 I would be glad to help you in anyway I can.

Thanks for the response, nice ponds. I was looking at about an acre +/-. Do you think he could help?

The contractor I used was John York he is located in Whitney. It depends on your pond site and type of pond. If your pond can be built with just a bulldozer I would recommend him, if you are going to have to move a lot of dirt to create the pond I would look for a contactor who has a paddle wheel scraper & dozer. Also depending on the water shed and spillway type should play into your decisions as to who to go with. If you can get them to contract the job by given them a full set of engineered plans then it really don't matter it's on their dime as to how to move the dirt. Good luck, I'd be glad to help with the plans if you can't get any thing out of the AGRI boys. Also keep in mind the AGRI boys build live stock ponds and flood control ponds not recreation ponds there is a difference. There have been other post recently about this subject so don't get to discouraged when you talk to them.

Thanks for all your help. I have spoken with a contractor and went to see his work and spoke with his clients. I am going to go with him. This is a recreational pond so the AGRI boys said it would not quailfy through their department. Again, you have been helpful.
