So my Dad has a pond in Southeast Nebraska. That was built in 2010. Its just a little over 2 acers in size and 16ft deep. I have seen on youtube that a guy took some semi airbags and put them onto the bottom of a windmill and pumped air into his pond. I am thinking about doing this. Since we do have a sediment problem, and we do have grass carp in the pond to help with the algae blooms in the summer and they are doing a good job. My question is would this be a good idea to do, and what are some pros and cons for doing something like this? Like I said I am new to this idea and will take any advice from anyone. Thanks!!

bassman, I'm not the expert on aeration but I will add that if the grass carp are cleaning up something green, it's not algae. They cannot digest algae so it is either some sort of plant bloom (Not Planktonic), such as duckweed or the "bloom" is taking care of itself by other means if it is truly algae.
What is the main source of water for the pond?

I would think any air will help, be careful on how you start it up. Would you drill another larger hole in the air bag fore in coming air, seems to me this would be the bottle neck in the system and making your 1 way air valve. May try using two bags with one upside down so you would have air on the up and down stroke. Take pictures and let us know if it works or not. Welcome to this site you will learn a lot from the old posts.

A client had the exact same thing done to his windmill. After 2 years and a number of rebuilds he had us install a Vertex aeration system. Bags blew, rods bent, most things happened when he needed aeration the most. We checked O2 levels when it was running and saw that it didn't produce enough air to properly aerate his pond, 3 acres, 10' depth max.

The main source of water is from a field that is north of the pond. A silt dam was put in to help with the sedmiment that was coming into the pond. I was thinking if I did put this in would it help clear up the water at all and improve the fishing at all?
