I bought some land and had a one acre pond built in late July. At its deepest, it is 13 ft. and now lacks about 4-5 feet being full. Novice that I am, I did not know that ponds leaked until I subscribed to POND BOSS and discovered this website. Now I am afraid that my new pond may leak. It has lost about one inch in the past week. How much is it likely to lose by settling, or by simple absorption? Thanks to anyone who responds.

Welcome to the site. I live in Grayson County, near Gordonville, and have had quite a bit of experience with leaking soils.
If you lose an inch in a week, that's not bad. But, with as much rain as we have had this fall and winter, all the absorption should have already occurred. If you lose an inch each week, you should have enough rainfall to keep your pond close to full most of the year. Considering what you have said, I would bet you are losing that inch to seepage.

Bob, thanks for the info. I hope I am only losing that much. My pond is 7 mile east of Van Alstyne, where I hope to build a house with the pond as part of the aesthetics. Lovely view...but not of a dry hole. If it doesn't hold water in the long run, I hope POND BOSS can help me fix it. I am a retired coach, so I don't have thousands to spend on it or the divorce that would follow. Thanks again! Great magazine and web site!
