It's good to see a nice sized lmb caught since they seem to be hard to catch at my place right now. I know the big ones are there but they are a lot harder to catch then the 2 to 4 lb lmb in the pond. I think it may be because there is a lot of bg for them to feed on. And as they get bigger they become smarter or wiser much like we do as we get older. Studies have proved fish are smarter than we think
Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.
This pond is rarely fished for bass, so this one may have been naive. Caught on a large white plastic worm. She's in the freezer of the fisherman, so now others can fill the niche.
We have had steady rain as the warm wet stream of weather continues on the 'pineapple express' from Hawaii. Steady rain means more and more street runoff and pond overflow.
I had plans to dig in some overflow pipes to direct water towards a specific spot in the woods on the far side of the pond, however, I can see now that I can direct all I want but when there is this much water it still is going to overflow in all directions.
Fortunately this year the aerator went on a platform made of a half of a 55 gal drum filled with expanding foam. The cabinet is on top of a floating piece of styrofoam cooler lid for added good measure come high water (and some vibration damping effect). Glad it didn't submerge!
Lots of water in the woods. It is interesting that I don't see any minnows in the overflow water. I fed them at their usual spot on the opposite banks and they happily fed like usual, oblivious to their new domain in the wooded area.
The dog figured out he can wade around in the water since the shock line that goes around the pond is way out in the deep water now!
The landscaping on the opposite side of the pond is nearly touching the water, we never had water that high!
If you look closely in the 4th picture you can see the orange goldfish just under the surface cleaning up on pellets!
Can't get this one to post straight. If you download the file (#5 below) it will show up correctly.
Sorry about the flooding. We got record rains just after the pond was completed. It filled in one day. Pond builder visited because of his concern, but good design allowed it to handle the deluge. Hope all is well when things settle down!
The last two ponds we built (One was 4.5 acres, one was 30 acres) filled with the same rain. The 4.5 acre pond took 2.5 years to fill and the 30 acres took 3-4 months to fill.
Sweet buck RAH. Congratulations. This is the first year out of 10 that I didn't go opening morning. I was to worried about the heat. I'm going tonight and Saturday night. I have a doe on camera since 2015 that has no tail. She should be 6 years old at this point. I am actually hoping my Dad can harvest her. He retired this year and is looking forward to hunting more with me and vice versa.
P.S. Finding any deer from EHD? We haven't found any. We hunt in southern Ripley County where there was some reports of them. Hope it cools soon and rains.
None of the worrisome deer diseases reported in my area. We have a lot of water sources which may help avoid concentrating the deer in one area, at least this is what I am hoping... Hot weather made fast processing a must. Deer went down in its tracks which helped (no tracking). Very close shot, so I did a neck shot which is tricky, but my crossbow is very accurate.
Update: Big doe hanging in the barn. If it did not have young with it, I would not have been sure it was not an antlerless buck. Went down really quick, so a very short drag, which is always a bonus for an old guy like me...
We are near the center of the deer disease area. In the last 3 years, we have gone from routinely seeing herds of 20 or more to rarely seeing a deer.
That is unfortunate. Hoping hunter pressure can keep our herd healthy but that is probably wishful thinking. DNR cut our county bonus-doe number in half (from 4 to 2), but folks that hunt in multiple counties can take the county limit in each county (seems like odd regulations to me). Filled my 2-deer archery limit, so now on to bonus deer after processing doe in barn. Can also take an additional doe with muzzle loader. Far more complicated than necessary...
I'm not a hunter but I'm an eater lol. I took some back straps last year and soaked in spike overnight. Then drained then Sprite again with seasoning for few hours. On to the smoker it went. That's was better than any cut of meat iv ever had. Of yeah covered in spray butter also. Not trying to turn this into a recipe thread just sharing lol.

Wish we had someone who likes to cook at our house!
Thanks gehajake and roundy....they are very well made and stable. Looking forward to fishing the middle of the pond for a change. She caught the first fish outta the boat today...a striper. She'll never let me forget she caught the first one..lol. gehajake if ya decide to look into it call and ask for Kevin Houtwed...he is the owner and a really nice guy...and will will make any customizations happen.
Zep tht is a very cool pond toy. Many fishing story will be made and told from it. I'm adding a picture of my pond and you all will know why I'm jealous lol.
Congrats on another one RAH. Hunted Friday night with my dear old Dad. So glad he can still go with me. We didn't see any. I also hope the DNR keeps our herd healthy. The last few years have been great. We primarily hunt Ripley County which was an 8 quota for a few years but as with all countys, we are 2 this year as well. The tag limits are kinda crazy aren't they? I tried explaining to a young man at work about harvesting during archery season, then allowed 1 during muzzleloader, and then the bonus does, he just looked at me with daze and confusion. LOL. Good luck.
Airborne - Best of luck to you and your dad this season! Had a limb on my TenPoint crossbow delaminate while cocking it yesterday (dangerous!). I have had several problems with this crossbow since buying it after shoulder surgery, and I have not been happy with their service. It is currently at a dealer who is handling the repairs this time, but I bought a Ravin and it was cheaper, and is faster, better constructed, more accurate, easier to cock, and way lighter. Only downside is the white camo pattern which seems to be trendy these days. Live and learn on buying from a company that has apparently gotten too large to maintain quality control. I'll use the TenPoint in foul whether to spare the Ravin the harsh conditions.
Going to try eating a few BH and a deep hooked 8in GSF. The CC stocked 1 year ago almost to the day are also growing. 2 CC caught and released tonight. First bounty of the pond!
