So I ended up buying a different property than i had indented. The old property had a pond with water and i was on here reading up all i could on water quality, airation, fish and everything else i could.

Then this new property came along and was more land, better land and a dry pond. I have been searching on here and have not found anything that will answer my questions. The first is the pond was bone dry and over grown with grass and a few small trees. Do i need to remove all of that from the pond bed? I suspect if i left it i might have water retention problems, water quailty issues and who knows what else. Next question is we had crazy rain 6.5 inches in an hour and the pond went from empty to just about full, do i need drain it to work on the vegitation? So far the water level has not changed.

If there is a thread on here that touches on this i have not found it, can someone point me in the correct direction.

Here in Texas, if we find a pond has gone dry it is usually due to two different possibilities. The pond leaks or the pond is too shallow and dry's up during droughts. Neither is good. For now, I might keep an eye on it and see if I could determine a leak and where that leak might be. Either situation might require some excavating. Best wishes for your new pond. Go to the Forum list and click on it and that will take you to pond construction for some ideas that might help

There has to be a leak becuase the pond is about 12 foot deep in the middle.

If it was dry this year after all the rain we have had to must have a leak. I would wait til it goes again and do some research at the bottom. If it went from zero to 12 feet you have a serious leak. It should be ease to spot the source of the problem when it drops again. Now let me til you i'm far from an expert on this. But my pond is about 2 hours south from you and iv been trying to drain it all year with no luck. I was told if you have google earth PRO you can look at history pictures. You might see if it held water in older pics. Good luck with your project and posts some pics when ya can. Any chance there is a drain at the bottom that is broken?

With all the rain we have been getting i have no dbout. And with the plant growth in the pond i would say it has had a leak for a long time. Which wouldn't surprise me since the lady we bought from said it was her husbands baby but he pass back in 2015.
