Will be building a twin Vertex 9"diaphram head and can not tell upon placement if heads are parallel or perpendicular to waters surface. My thoughts are to build an assembly that looks like Princess Leias head 2 Vertax perpendicular to water surface. Will suspend 14ft down at 30ft depth and leave it there during summer. No weight to hold it down other than weighted hose and a boat fender (rubber buoy) at top of 14ft rope. If I build head with both Vertex parallel upon placement I will not be able to know relationship of heads to waters surface. Thinking Princess Leia head design (opposite and equal reaction ) will prevent possible up and down bouncing of weighted hose on pond floor. As usual am I over thinking a simple problem?

It's common practice to have the diffuser head sitting in the water column like a dinner plate sitting on the table...parallel to the water surface.

It will be challenging to suspend the diffusers in the water column so that they are situated as such with just one buoy and the weighted line hanging off. It may be spitting hairs to say the the "have to be" that way, but I think they will lose some of there efficiency.

If you choose to build Princess Leia's head to split the difference, try to mount the line so that it hangs straight down from the center of the assembly and the buoy rope is mounted so that it comes off high in the center of the assembly. A weight, along with the line, hanging down might help stabilize it.

Sketch up your design and share with us for ideas before building.

Thanks again QA was really hoping someone would say that it didn’t matter because I was trying to keep it simple. I can just remember standing on the bottom of the ocean floor and watching my narrow column of bubbles spread out and blanket the waters surface. Guess I will go with my Sputnik design, dinner plate on each end, 3ft rod up with buoy rope at end and possibly 3ft rod down with weight. PVC pipe is cheap while I try different designs. Plumbing jobs are always 3 trips to the hardware store anyway. lol
