A couple fish I recently caught on our small lake coughed up a big glob of clear stuff that had the consistency of jello. Anyone know what that might be?

A bryozoan, maybe? Maybe some fish eat those things.

Thanks. Haven't seen any in the lake lately, but we have had them. Maybe the fish ate them all. Why? Very unusual for them to eat them huh?

I would not think a bass would eat a bryozoan, but who knows?
Could it maybe have been some partially digested fish?
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I suppose it's possible that the bass, while thrashing about with it's mouth wide open, just bulldozed some of it up during the fight.
Fish on!, Noel

Great idea. They were caught close to each other and thus may have been close to the same glob under water.

Was the pond/lake ever treated with a sealant like Soilfloc for a leak? I always wondered if fish would eat the unbound particulate. Just a guess...
