Hello All,


A pond aeration question.

I have a pond that is a year old. It is 80' x 140' and averages 20' deep. I have two diffusers. I started aeration on June 14th, it runs 24\7. I have noticed algae and muck accumulating around the edges of the pond. I do keep the pond dyed blue. At no time has there been an odor.

Is this normal? Do I need to add some sort of pond cure? What other steps should I take?

Don't rely on aeration to stop algae growth. Aeration may actually make conditions better for growth of some forms of algae. Wave action helps a lot in reducing muck accumulation along the edges and shoreline.

My pond is pretty new too and I am amazed at what is "normal" at my pond...It seems to change every year. So, yes, some muck and algae are very normal at my place and can be beneficial too. Although at times, the muck and algae have been very abundant and pretty scary.

The first step would be to post a few pictures of the stuff in question. These photos should help depict the general types of "stuff" and how much you are dealing with (some close-ups and some from further back).

Are you taking pond water temps?

How clear is your water?
