If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

You know....I have been meaning to post a message on cage culter...it seems as if we talk very little on this sight on the subject. What are the 101 basics to Cage culture? What type of species can be used for cage culture

What timing. I was looking through a catalog the other day and noticed some netting used to make cages. I was wondering if I could build a small cage to raise fatheads or something else as food for the largemouth bass in my pond. Anyone try this? Not sure how big the cage would have to be or if it would be worth the effort and cost for cage/food etc.

Big Pond,

Here's a site to go to that covers cages pretty well. I use them to grow out fingerling bass and bluegills until they are big enough to escape predation. May leave some bluegills in one indefinitely and see how big they will get in a cage. Keep in mind I am using feed trained fish that feed readily in a cage.

RobA,

Only problem I would see with a cage with mesh small enough to hold fatheads is it would clog with algae quite rapidly in fertile ponds. I have to scrub cages on a weekly basis even for 3/4 inch mesh. A pier to attach cages to are a big plus!
