I had some guest out to the pond, a friend who was a pro football player yrs back. He brought his son along with his two granddaughters who looked to be 3 going on 4 and a 6yr old. I set them up for cnbg fishing off the pier and the older one took right to it, catching one right after another and up to 9" or so. The little one not so much. Or maybe she is just a little too girly with all that outdoor stuff lol. Will they had a good time and we sent them home with a few cnbg to eat. I also saw a school of TFS swim by as we fished and I was glad to see that. Looking back at it all, I wished I would have taken some pictures.

She did it again. Out fished me in my own pond. This time with a six month old in a pack, and using a “Paw Patrol” rod and reel. The drag was screaming the whole time. I said, you’ve got to tighten that drag a bit, she said, it’s maxed out. Ha! New pond record for SMB.

RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.

Thanks guys. Proud dad here. FYI, the SMB was 17”. The longest one yet from our small BOW. My hand held scale said 1.25 lb. it was more than that. Either my scale is messed up, or it was in some weird configuration. Wish I would have got the correct weight.

I've been very curious about how the CC are progressing. Bought some strawberry Berkley Power Bait and threw a line out tonight. It didn't take long! Caught 3 very fat CC then fed everyone. Stocked 100CC in Oct 2018 along with BG, HBG, RES and FHM.
Decided my goal is grow trophy BG in the tank. Is there a post/thread of the recipe someone has handy? I will add bass likely next spring after a successful BG spawn. There was a great post recently about culling bass more than 14" and female BG to promote big BG. What else?

Roundy - All three looked like this and did not have a forked tail or speckles. bullhead is what I first thought of as well....just thought no way...We have a huge watershed and I have no clue what is upstream.

I agree...brown bullhead. The only catfish that reside in my pond.

I knew rain was coming so I had my son come over with his front end loader and scoop the last of my ag lime up (about 4 tons)and place it in washed out gullies that lead into the pond. Well...unexpectedly we got 4 1/2 inch downpour!! But every bit of the aglime got washed into the water at least!! Good news I think? At least it did not go over the spillway. Missed by about 2 inches!!

Luckily, I dropped another 500# of aglime in the pond late last week. It had a few days to settle before we got another 2" of rain yesterday morning. My YTD total is now 35.5 inches. Events are starting to spread out between now, so hopefully it'll ease up soon.

Never thought I'd be happy to see the dog days of summer.

Fished awhile with a flefly(small feathered jig). Haven’t used anything but Stubby Steve’s for some time. Caught a couple of medium bg but also caught two 8 inch limb and a CC that went 2.5 to 3 lbs. After the water turkeys hit me I have no idea whT I have. The bass surprised me and I really don’t recall stocking cats in 20 years . But, it looked young and healthy.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Yesterday I bought a 4/10hp waterfall pump and some PVC. I built a fountain of sorts that shoots water out over the surface to create some surface aeration during the day. By dusk, all of that scummy PA was gone and then the bottom aerator came on at 11pm. This morning the pond is completely clear.

I tore apart my Ecoplus7 air pump that I use for shallow water aeration, fixed a broken wire, then put it back together and fired it up, it puts out a very nice boil. I have twin diffusers sitting 30" off the bottom in 5ft of water.

I moved the cloverleaf trap to my wetland/sediment pond/forage pond that was stocked w FHM and BG in March. Caught 5 YOY BH, 2 black bass 3-5in, GSF, and likely some HBG. Also caught 5 golden shiners in the main pond that were not stocked.
My questions are: Since I am trying to build the forage and introduce bass next spring should the bass be removed or let them grow to start controlling or at least grow to eventually start controlling the BH? Or will the bass be a detriment to the FHM, future bass and since having unknown genetics remove them?
Or advance the stocking plan and add bass now?
Or build more traps, remove everything I dont want and hope traps are enough to slow down the momentum of the invasion?
Or will heavy trapping physically harm too many of the forage I'm trying to develop? Catching lots of BG...
or switch to cloth based traps to reduce damage

Took a road trip to pickup a pontoon to make into a floating dock. Almost lost one wheel when lug bolts worked loose, but things worked out. Look at the size of the pontoons on it, they are huge, like the better part of three foot across. Aluminum parts are fine but everything else is trash, thinking about putting Trex on it for decking. When new it was very deluxe with power folding canopy, solar panels to charge batteries, microwave, small fridge, and fresh water system with some type of privy setup. This will probably end up a indoor winter project for use next year.

I went out to switch over from bottom aeration to fountain this morning so I took some readings. Aeration is running 9 hours (11p-8a). Surface temp was still 88f, 3' was 87f and 11' was 86f. I've backed off another 3 hours on the startup to give the surface more time to cool. PH was 7.5.

While switching over the systems, I noticed the air line was quite warm. The pump is housed and tho it doesnt have a fan, is very well ventilated. I'm wondering now how much pump heat contributes to the water temp. Not sure how much air gets to cool before it reaches the diffusers.

That should make a super dock, I was planning on doing the same thing and found a really nice one in Iowa on the facebook marketplace, like a 24 fter, I won't be able to get up there and pick it up but for an 8x24 aluminum dock, they were asking 1000.00 for it, you cant build any frame with floats for anywhere close to that. this one already had some kind of floor on it but I don't know how good it was.

We received over 3.5 inches of rain so far since last night. My older pond that leaks some is up 12 inches, still 5.5 inches low, and the newer pond is running out the upper and lower emergency spillways. Looks like another round of rain will be here in an hour or two. Our creek was out of the banks a little. It will have time to run down some.

I did some rod and reel sampling this morning. 5" Male RES in spawning colors, SMB I stocked 9 days ago, and what Cody thinks are bryozoans growing on the dead stems of last years smartweed in the water.

Fish look healthy to me Shorty. I’ll have to google bryozoans. Hope they are something you want?

Edit. Up at the pond today. Spent last night and this am mowing. Had two hard 1” rains right before we got here yesterday. Water is 2” deep going out the overflow pipe. Can hear it running hard through the rocks behind the dam. Our soil is still saturated from all the rains so far this year. Renter has beans planted in the 10 ac field that is a big part of my runoff. They are only about 3” tall at this point, so not holding back any water. Makes for some pretty dark brown water..

We have had 4.93" since this rain event started yesterday evening. Looks like some more coming. The ponds are all over the e spillways, even the leaker is about 3/4 inch over the overflow, up over 18 inches since yesterday. I hope all the fresh water doesn't cause any problems. The water still feels warm to my hand. Lots of crawdads are moving on land around the ponds.
