Went fishing yesterday evening and caught several BG and another RES in breeding color. Man those are pretty fish. Had a minnow trap set in the overflow pond and probably had a hundred LMB in it about 2Ē long, returned them to main pond. I had thrown three 8Ē BCP in there this early spring so I guess if ole GBH hasnít ete them those shiner size bass will not like the outcome.... lol

I guess April showers really do bring some beautiful May wild flowers back in the woods. Wife took these.

Gorgeous. Love the rain, except when it goes over emergency spillway.

Put the remainder of my left over pex, a couple of milk crates, a piece of broken cement block (in the bottom crate) and wire ties together for another attractor. Whole thing ended up just over 4' high. Placed it out beyond the main spawning area. Easy cast from the dock.

Really cool, Zep! I am the chief shovel guy around here, and have put in more flower beds than I'd like to admit. I do like the iris she picks out.

Thanks anthropic...hopefully the rain will now come in non-flood ways.

Very nice DrLuke!...i am experimenting this year at the house with less water guzzling flowers...and more drought resistant stuff like Mexican Feather Grass and Purple Fountain Grass.

I have this small pond about 25 feet across on the back edge of my property. The fella who farms the ground said one of the previous owners heard it was good for deer hunting to have a watering hole. So the owner had a pond dug. I agree in principle, but there is a year round flowing creek that runs thru the property about 25 yards from the watering hole.
I think I will repurpose it as a FHM forage pond for my main BOW. Trim back and kill the willow and clean out the bottom of trash. Put in some pallets and hopefully the love fest will begin.

It's that time of year...a guy I work with has a few honey bee hives out at our property....looks like all the rain produced more flowers for the bees. He said he will have over twenty-five 6oz containers for us this week. He'll sell the rest. We're going to grow it from 4 hives to 10 hives this year. Those bees were not very happy when he and his brother were harvesting the honey this weekend.

While preparing to take the granddaughter fishing this afternoon I walked down to the pond to make a few casts. Made 4 casts out to where I just dropped that new attractor and caught two of my three LMB off of it. The little buck (1) is looking kinda puny, real skinny, but the other, (I think it was 2) was really healthy. Tried to get a picture of her but while holding her in the water waiting for my phone to be brought to me, she made an escape.

The trip to the other pond resulted in a new 11" LMB being transplanted into my pond, which will naturally be named 4. Havent seen any sign of 3 in quite some time. I'm hoping shes just hanging out in deeper water. Visibility is too shallow to see much.

Filled three feeders today, watched two ducks and one greedy giant GBH. Saw hummingbird, but don't have feeder up yet & may be too late.

Beaver came close to us when we were loading a feeder near the dam. He did a funny double take when he saw us, stuck his head completely out of the water and then dove & was seen no more.

Pond is most fertile it's ever been judging by the green tinge & 24 inch viz. Don't want to add more fertilizer now because I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to cyanobacteria.

It sure has been a strange spring here too. This time last year the pond was pushing 4 feet in visibility, this year, even using pond dye and running aeration 12 hours at night I'm still fighting a strong algae bloom. By day's end the surface is almost completely covered with that hazy film and the visibility is barely 16" now. May have to look into adding some bacteria to help get rid of the apparently heavy nutrient load the pond picked up from last fall's droppings.

That and another dose of aglime will hopefully help clear it up over time.

Floated the newly acquired Titanic and took depth soundings of the pond. 20ft by the dam and tapering to 7ft at inlets. Very happy not too much sediment so far. Kids got nipped by HBG and squeals abounded. Trapped a few FHM and threw into a small watering hole with a pallet for future restocking. All in all a great day all around.

Decided not to stomp in the mud yesterday to check the pond. Oil company sent video though. The road separating the wetland and the tank got washed out where the new culverts were put in. Water was flowing over the road as well. Hopefully we dont lose the entire road.
Checked on my bees at my grandmother's property. Weak hive is totally infested with hive beetles and wax moths. Probably a total loss. A week ago I only saw a few.

Bullhead ain't so bad. They eat little fish and 12" is about as big as they'll get. If you feed pellets, I'm surprised you havent seen any before now. They are vacuums! They were one of the first to show up in my pond, long before it filled up. They aren't bad eating either.

If you have predators in place, they will pretty much keep them in check.

I have lots of predators (at least one 10# LMB) in the6 acre pond. Lots of BCP BC CC . Have not seen any catfish at feeder ever, just tons of CNBG.
